Olympia Pond 8-21-10

 8)

Here are some pictures from yesterday...  Beautiful day here in the Pacific NW...  Some of you may remember my 12 ft tall Dracaena from previous posts...  The single digit temperatures for 8 days in December 09 did it in so we replaced it with a Boulevard Pom Pom tree...  We also planted Joe Pye Weed after asking about it here and it is doing quite well!!!  Pickerel is having the best year yet...  and my Taro patch is finally filling in, after a very cool Spring...

Tinkster's generous sharing of lotus came to naught, because of the mallards and my one koi messing with them...  Oh well, I'll still give them a try, but not this year...

Take Care...  Dave

Your pond and the surrounding plants look fabulous!  Sorry you lost the dracaena but the pom pom looks great.  The pickerel purple blue bloom is fantastic< will look into one for myself  O0

It must be very nice weather you have there!  Too hot here  :P

Have always admired your pond.  Beautiful as always. Joe Pye weed looks good . Funny thing here where I live grows every where and people consider it a weed. Same with Golden Rod. :)

Just beautiful!  We don't have Joe Pye weed up here, but a few miles south it grows EVERYWHERE!  I thought maybe it needed hot humid summers, but you have nixed that theory!   ::)  So looks like it should grow anywhere... :)  Your pond and plants and yard are gorgeous!  8)

Thanks everyone...  As I've said before ....  Mental and Physical therapy for me...  Yep, the Joe Pye made it through the single digit weather, so I don't think it needs real warm temps...  Although we are Zone 8 here, you wouldn't believe it some winters...

Hi Dave

Your pond looks great. You should be very happy with the Joe Pye Weed. I have that planted in my yard. It attracts many butterflies and bees. The Pickeral also looks great. I also have Golden Rod growing my yard. I hate to get rid of it. You also might want to consider planting a Butterfly Bush. I have 3 of them. They also attract many butterflies and bees.

This year I had 3 Pokeweed plants come up in my yard. I have no idea where they came from. I transplanted them to a different location in my yard. I can't wait for their berries to start attracting birds
