My purple and yellow lilies still have not recovered from the dividing I did on July 4th.  Pads are small, and I've had only 2 quarter-sized blooms since then.  But I did have a bloom just last week, and for that I am happy.  It's still warm enough in Houston for flowers, without tenting.  In fact, the bog plants are going kinda wild right now.  Had to prune back the moneywort big time.

Thanks for the pics, Kat.  What kid of plastic do you have on your covers?

Hey Kat what zone are you in ?  Does your plastic extend all the way to the ground ?

My tropicals haven't looked that good for more than a month. But they aren't covered. And they are in a dirt pond.

I wonder if with the sun shining on the side of the raised pool it equals or excedes the heat from the ground if it were below ground with the same plastic above it?

I'm sure the answer to this is highly dependant on how much sun you get and how cold the winters are but I want to get an idea for my zone 6b hill top here in the east.

I would apreciate any opinions on this from anybody who has experience with this.

I guess I will have to make two side by side and see how they do.

Mike, I don't buy the plastic wide enough to have it extend down to the soil & it isn't completely air tight.  I think I'm zone 8a.  The pond that is right next to the house stays a couple degrees warmer & both of them are in full sun.
