Please post waterfall pics...rebuild
« on: January 07, 2011, 04:40:27 AM »
Hello all.
We are sitting in the frozen north, dreaming of the waterfall rebuild this spring. I need some inspiration. I would like to make a turn in the falls so that it starts behind a tree or shrub so the source isn't as visible. (Does that make sense?) Not sure how to do this from the technical side, any ideas? I have a wier. We moved all the stone over to my Mom's and I pretty much have to work with what I could salvage.
So please post ideas and photos on waterfalls, even if yours doesn't turn, because they are inspiring!
Kathy

It's not mine, Kathy, but it impressed me so much that I took a photo of it on a pond tour. These are actually two different waterfalls on the same pond.
Happy ponding,

Jerry I like the way your plants disguise the water source.
Pondman, Wow that is a fabulous fall! Kind of what I have in mind, like how that second fall turns to the left side (on a much smaller scale of course). I don't have rocks like that to work with. I have more plants and shrubs. probably not as much space either so I may just be dreaming. that is one spectacular pond!

Kathy, are you a member of your local FreeCycle community? If not, join. It can help you find things that you need for free. Not only have I used my local group in Florida but volunteered to be a moderator for the group here in this part of Alabama. Also, if you are riding around and see a pile of rocks in somebody's yard, just stop and ask for them. There is a good chance that they don't know what to do with them to get them out of their yard. I can go to my parent's and sister's property to pick up rocks in the woods, in the Winter when the snakes are sleeping.   :(
Happy ponding,

I bet everyone of us would do it differently if we had it to do over!

I sure would.

I sent you a couple pictures of my pond and waterfalls at different stages of growth.  You can see when the plants were young and small, and the picture that show's the plants sky high were taken this past summer.  I don't have a big pond but I make the area as green and inviting as I can and have a variety of flowers that bloom throughout the season at different intervals.  I'm not good at posting photo's but these might be something you like.

The water enters our pond from a stock tank that is located a couple of feet above the level of the pond.  From the stock tank the water flows into a small stream.  The stream has a dog-leg turn and the water then goes down a small waterfall, under the bridge and back into the pond.

I'm not looking to rebuild anything, I just want to make a comment to those who posted pics...THANK YOU!

The color green and the beautiful colors of all of your flowers are a soothing sight to my winter weary eyes!  Gray, black and white is what my eyes are accustomed to seeing these past couple of months.  When I clicked on those photos, it felt like I had a balm for my soul too!   o(:-)

;D Thanks so much for posting more pictures! They all give me inspiration! I agree with kittyzee, it's just a blanket of white with a gray sky here too...boring. I can't wait until spring!

Mikey and Jax, your ponds are beautiful!
Mikey, does having the stream give you more trouble with algae?

Jerry, you are sooooo right. I am trying to do the best I can from the start.

Scott, Freecycle is a great idea! Anytime I have asked someone for thier rocks, they want to keep them.  i THINK my plan is a little more modern, so i may not need as many anyway.  i'm moving as many as I can from this house, or should I say my Son is!  ;D
