Conservatory pics (more)
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:32:49 PM »
Throughout the conservatory there are glass sculptures by the artist Dale Chilhuhly (sp?).  They have purchased several of his pieces and have placed them throughout the plant rooms and some are hanging from the skylights.  He is a master glass blower and his pieces are spectacular.

The stationary glass balls in the koi pool were very large, but I have never seen such big koi in my life.  I can't post more than 4 pics, I will have to show the fish in another post.

Oh wow...........I love that glass.  We just watched a show about him last week.  There is a huge piece of his glass in the Children's Museum in Indianapolis, but I haven't seen it yet.  I gotta get there.

Don't ya just love those colors. o(:-)

The colors are unbelievable!  I saw a show a few months back on him too...I can't imagine how he does it.  There were more of his sculptures and some paint on plexiglass lit from behind --  they were awesome too!

No, I had CBS on, but it was later than usual with the local news on longer due to the weather.  I missed the Chilhuhly?!  RATS!  He is a master for sure.  They have a large kiln on the premises of the conservatory and have glass blowing seminars and classes.

I also saw the show at Fairchild in 2006. We also have a stunning piece in one of the imaging centers at the medical school here.

The glass balls look similar to the ones on my Google wall paper except they are in with some tropical lilies and I think a Victoria.
Happy ponding,
