... and was admiring the tall Pampas grass.
Several years ago I noticed a neighbor had planted three pampas grass plants in a triangle pattern in a planter in his front yard. They are beautiful plants, and invasive here, but over the years their diameter will expand to the point that they are huge and very difficult to dig out. Several months later I was walking past his house and he was out front gardening. I stopped to chat and asked him if he had a strong back. He asked why and I explained that in a few years I thought he likely would be digging those rascals out.
Over the years they did in fact get huge and he had to prune them which of course ruined their attractiveness but he had no choice because they were sticking well out into the sidewalk and his driveway. About a year ago he was wise enough to save his back and hire some day laborers to dig out the plants.....
Pondering: It's quite possible they have some dwarf or semi-dwarf pampas grasses available that would be more manageable. They can be quite attractive in the right setting and if you have a large piece of property you could handle the full size plant.
