Almost ready for liner!! (photo)
« on: March 16, 2011, 04:19:47 PM »
Looks like we will be swimming tomorrow, regardless of temperature. Thankfully it's going to be warm and sunny with a high of 83!

I second what Jerry said... it looks great! Can't wait to see it filled. I suspect you'll need waders the next time you're standing there. Congrats!

Oh my - that is HUGE and DEEP!  Just in time for spring, too!

Is the section in the back to be a bog?

Please post pics as you progress!

Photo updates! 8)

Underlayment - light weight and easy. :)

Holy smokes this liner was heavy! About 360 lbs, DH and I could barely unroll it. Much easier to move once unrolled!

Bottom Drains - there are two and each is 4".

Time to fill it up!!

We've been watching the water meter as we have filled and it's about 5000 gallons right now.

Now, to answer a few questions. :)

Here is a very crude diagram of the plumbing circuits.

1. 4" bottom drain in the shallow end (1.5-2' deep)
2. 4" bottom drain in the deep end (3-4' deep)
3. Savio 16" skimmer, modified with 3" bottom drain looping under pond floor via 3" flex pvc to hole where bottom drains are currently popping out.
4. Sequence 4200 GPH pump
5. Savio 31" Filterfalls
6. Undergravel filter in bog
7. Sequence 4200 GPH pump

We may also add in some TPRs in the shallow end to direct debris toward the bottom drains. Future filtration such as a sieve from the bottom drains to a bead type filter.

I hope the bog will eventually look like this photo from a Helen Nash book. Just ordered two lotus from Craig for delivery next week!

How exciting for you Jessica  @O@ ..........I know you have been planning this for a very long time!  I can't wait to see it filled with your beautiful lilies.

You'll have a hard time keeping those boys out of it.

Many thanks for the many kind compliments! Just finished dividing and repotting all of my hardies in the new pond. 4 of the 5 containers are now empty and drying off in the drive way. This little "toad" was helping me put plants in the new pond this afternoon. :)

WOW!  I'm just drooling over your new pond!  Didn't realize it was that warm in Dallas already.  Hope to see fishies swimming in there soon.

Looking good Lady Gator!  it looks like you have adjusted to Texas life.

I think I have Pond envy.  I have always gone for static ponds, but then again between winter and Herons I don't have a heavy fish load either.  I take it you will have plants as wel as Koi.  Anyway I look forward to seeing th efinished product!!

Thanks all!

We built our first in-ground pond in Kansas in the fall of 2001 and ended up moving to Florida one year later. We lived in an apartment, rental house, and finally our first purchased home. By the time we started wrapping up our remodelling projects there, we moved to Texas. Four years later and we finally got this project going. So nearly 10 years after gettin into the hobby and a half dozen container ponds, we are finally getting a pond again! We have definitely put a lot of thought into it.
