Yerba Mansa = Lizards Tail
« on: May 03, 2011, 02:44:43 PM »
I am trying to figure out how to plant this as it's new for me.

I have read that Yerba Mansa is aka as Lizards Tail. Is that right?
Here is a link to the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yerba_mansa

To me they look very different.  I plant mine in regular dirt with a bit of fertilizer & then have the pot situated where the water line is even with the top of the pot.  Sunny to partial shade.

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

Lizard's Tail is Saururus cernuus. To me, it looks quite different to Yerba Mansa.
Here's a link to help.

I agree with the others, it looks very different from my lizards tail.

I pot up my lizards tail the same way kat mentioned.

oh yes lizards tail and Yerba are different all together...yerba mensa is an medicinal herb that grows well in boggy conditions...so it does well with wet feet/dry ankles...dirt is fine to plant them in also can use cheap kitty litter or pebbles....it will get it's nutrients from the water...Lizards tail can take a few inches of water over the roots and it can be grown in the same kind of medium as the Yerba Mensa....Yerba tends to be a bit picky at first but, once it gets established it does quite well...

The link that I posted had me totally confused. I searched the lizards tail and it looked different to me when I compared the pics but the wiki said otherwise.
I'm glad to find out that they are two different animals as I wasn't wanting the lizards tail in the spot I had in mind.

Thanks all for clearing this up and the planting pointers along with the aquatic link.
