This umbrella you sent me has been divided 4 times now. Here is the latest photo of it...we set it in the pond a few months ago after being cut back. Wow this thing is bullet proof.

What zone are you in? My umbrella palm started dying back as soon as we had our first minor frost! Same with my cat tails.
I have them in the greenhouse now, doing fine.
I'm glad to hear they can be divided.

8A the only thing I've had die back were a couple of tropical lilies. The hardy's and rush, taro and umbrella are doing fine.

A friend of mine at work gave me a few cuttings from her plant today. She told me to invert the tops in some water with soil at the bottom and they should put out roots. Is there anything else I should do? What temp. and light exposure would it need in the house? I would love to be able to plant it in my pond next spring :)

I've sprouted them from inverted tops in the house before . . . . they aren't too fussy about light but the warmer the better.  My problem is that I cannot seem to keep them alive over winter . . . . that and the turtles used to tromp them something bad . . . . haven't tried any since I've had the turtles indoors . . .

I just put mine in a pot with no holes used sand and some color burst fertilizer and stuck it in the pond. Sean's recipe works good too. We had tornado's in the area last night so I found it blown over this morning but only one broken limb.

Yeah those storms we had in Georgia yesterday and last night were really something else!!!  Scarey stuff!!!  We lost a lot of branches and had some water damage but came thru it in pretty good shape.  There were a lot of trees downed here and a couple of fires and some tornado damage in this area and all the way to north Georgia.

Wow, it looks great. I'm glad it found a good home.  :) I wish I could over-winter too but like Teresa I haven't had much luck doing so.
