I had mentioned earlier that the yellow rain lilies did not perform well for me.  I assumed they had all passed on to yellow rain lily heaven....  However, for the last few days one did in fact make a showing in one of my pots.  I am quite thrilled  @O@

Hmm that is interesting.  My yellows (Citrina) have not sprouted yet but the peach and pinks have.

The rain lilies in this pot are now going through their 2nd flowering of the season.  I stopped watering them in late June after their first blooms and started watering them again starting in August.

While taking the photo a Monarch butterfly landed on some nearby milkweed so I took another photo at this weird angle so that the top right corner would capture the Monarch.....but it is barely visible....

Those are some great colors.  Several of them remind me of the colors I have seen in some plumeria flowers.  I turned the irrigation emitter back on to one of my rain lily pots that has already bloomed for me on two prior occasions this summer and I am pleased to see it is going to give me a 3rd set of flowers.  It seems that about 3 weeks of no water for this variety of rain lily is all it takes to force some of the bulbs to flower once it is watered again.  I have two pots of rain lilies and I have them staggered so they both don't bloom at the same time.

Mikey, you've got the knack.  I'm finding the bulbs in pots are doing best for me but it could be the better fertilized soil is making a difference.  They are also known for liking to be grown tight together.  Rosea & Citrina are both making seeds for me & already have some baby cintrina started.

Kat: Do you plant your seeds immediately or wait until next spring?  I have quite a few seeds and I was planning to plant them this fall.

From my understanding the seeds need to be planted right away.  I was able to get a used lighted growing plant rack that I've got my seeds set up in.  Will be using it all winter & hopefully the baby rain lilies will be big enough to plant by spring time.

Kat, the white rain lilies grow wild here, but I had seen some yellow ones growing on the side of the freeway in Houston, but it was in a very busy area, where 288 crosses 610.   You would be risking your life trying to stop a vehicle and walk up that incline to get them....although it did cross my mind.   I had never seen them any where else, growing wild around here.

I noticed a corner of my yard, near the bayou had a bunch of yellow flowers, but I didn't even go investigate....we have a lot of weeds with yellow flowers...but when I finally did walk past there, I couldn't believe my eyes....it was a huge patch of yellow rain lilies!   And shortly thereafter, some of the big pink ones like Mac mentioned came up in another area of the yard.   I believe they do have their blooms at an angle.    They just showed up....hadn't seen them before and I have been here about 16 years.

I saw some big ones growing on a back road...big pink ones...I think grandiflora.   I don't know where they came from, and I meant to go back and dig them up but I haven't seen them since, so someone else may have gotten them.

Marilyn, that is great you seen so many growing wild.  The ones at an angle are habranthus.  I'm hoping next year to get a lot more blooms if we don't have the severe drought conditions again.  Maybe you'll see them again & be able to collect some for your garden.

I just found the bulbs you sent me - I'd misplaced them when I first got them (really DH did).  Do you think they will still grow or are they dead?

Get them planted right away in pots with really good potting soil (MiracleGro Moisture Control is what I use).  Sunny/partial sun location, saucers under the pots if you got them.

Keep them well watered but not soggy.  Hopefully many of them will recover from the extended storage.  I was amazed at some Naked Ladies (Belladonna) bulbs I had gotten.  They were completely dried out & just about falling apart.  Much to my surprise they recovered & sent up leaves the next spring.  Maybe the rain lilies will be just as durable.  Keep me posted.

thanks! I will let you know.  I had a similar experience with Bella Donnas.  It seems like in CA you can't kill anything so we shall see.

Hey, I bought a couple of rain lilies today at the farmers market.  The pics of the flowers were pink and I think the other one was white.

Congrats on finding some.  Does the tag say what kind they are?

Love the yellow ones.  I now have 4 pots of blooming rain lilies.  I have now learned to stagger the watering separately for each pot and in that way I just about always have one in bloom.  Once I start watering a "thirsty" pot I notice it takes about four or five days before I start seeing signs of some of the lilies sending up flowers.
