thanks miguynmkoi
I actually have the pond up and running now. I would post some pictures, but the computer with the picture does not currently have internet access, and I’m too lazy to transfer them right now.
What we did was dig the pond out deeper and build stepped shelves in the pond so that the areas up against the back and right hand side walls are at just bellow water level which is where I’ll mould the liner at water level into some stone (which I don’t have yet). The very back wall has a strip of dirt land area between the rock shore and the wall, that I’ll use for planting some sort of terrestrial plants. The left hand side has a wider area for terrestrial planting.

Thanks cmund

Here are the pond pictures so far.

Building up the deep area with little blocks.

laying underlay protection

Underlay in deep area

Wife in the deep area for perspective

Liner in and full of water

and the left side view

It may very well sit like that till spring before we start doing any landscaping or adding fish or plants to the pond.

Thanks for the new pics!  Now I see what you're creating for you pond.  What a beautiful space.  Can't wait til next year to see completion.

Well I tried to leave it alone, but the weather has been so nice that I started collecting some rocks and got a start on the waterfall design.
I got the basic shape of the waterfall built and laid down a piece of liner to contain the water.
I'm thinking the best plan now to hide the liner is go over it with mortar, and mortar all the rocks in and surrounding the waterfall into place to get the water to flow over the rock, rather than around and under.
Is this how it is normally done? Anybody?

Here is a picture, you can see 3 distinct curving steps.

WOW! LOVED the video, especially the underwater camera with the fishes, frogs and turtles!  Your area is beautiful, hope you are enjoying it! Btw, I really enjoyed the music in the background--it's one of my favorites!

Thanks all.
We definetly are enjoying the pond and courtyard space. We had such an ugly backyard before, it wasn't really a pleasant space to hang out at all, now we like to just hang out there all day long.  :)

Any updates?
Always updates. We added a bunch of driftwood to the pond lately, which gave the pond a more natural look and gives our 4 turtles a lot more basking options.
I still have to finish putting some rocks around the top of the waterfall, which is a big job because I want to use BIG rocks, and they are tough to get in place now because the pond is kind of in the way.  The last one we placed weighed nearly 200 lbs. Had to set up some scafold and planks to inch it into place.
And I already have a few boxes of natural marble tile that I will be installing on the sill between the pond and the courtyard, I may be doing that this weekend.

Anyway, thanks for looking.

Mucky
