I'm a fan of Kirk Strawn's hardy waterlilies and have several. I believe this is Barbara Dobbins.

And here is one of our many dragonflies resting on some horse tail rush, with BD in the background.

Just a little closer!

Here is a cropped version of that last photo to try to share a little bit more detail.

Pretty Dragonfly. That's a good zoom lens.  Yesterday I was at eye level with one of my stock tanks when a blue dragonfly came and hovered in front of my face to check me out (if I was hostile or not) before it then very quickly mated with another dragonfly (that was a first I ever saw that) and then proceeded to lay eggs on the surface water puddle of a lily pad (also a first that I ever saw that). I always thought those little eggs on the surface of pads were frog eggs or snail eggs.

DH noticed this year to our delight that we have a lot of dragonflys; more blue than green or orange. They have this characteristic humming sound that I hear before I actually see them.  I like to call them "water butterflies".  We certaininly have more of them than butterflies this year.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

Beautiful photos. Skeeter hawks and tree frogs, two added benefits of ponding.

Yes, those photos are beautiful--the colors of green and blue in that last one are stunning!   :)

Beautiful photography!  I love blue dragonfly too.  BD sure looks regal and dreamy.

We have some unusual ones this year. I had a solid black one come and perch next to me yesterday and my wife and I saw a white one with black wings today. Sorry, no photos.
Happy ponding,

Great photos Jessica. The lily is very pretty and I love dragonflies. They are hard to photograph though and your cropped one is gorgeous!
