What IS that plant? Is that a bloom?

My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

Cool looking plant & Dir. Moore sure is pretty.  Mine is about ready to open a bloom (thanks Magoo!).

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

It's a Tacca Chantrieri. Common name of bat flower. It's in the arrowroot family. The plant is in Louisiana Nurseries store down the street from Harb's Oasis in Baton Rouge.  It's tropical and likes high humidity. Humid tropical greenhouses are indicated to grow this plant. If I am going to spend 50 bucks on a plant, it'll be a waterlily or a tree. My wife wants one though. Blew us away though.

Oh the memory of my bat flower, tragic, but beautiful.  Bought mine as a left over bloomed out plant at a local fine nursery for $8 for a 5gal. pot!  Original price was $170+!!  I nursed it back to health over the winter and got it to flower 3 stalks.  Seeds didn't grow anything for me.  Gorgeous.  So much work to keep humidity up without wetting the plant.  It eventually died when I forgot about it in my jungle.  :'(  Thanks for the photos.
