New Waterlily Pest Warning!!!
« on: August 02, 2011, 02:13:43 PM »
This is something I've not come arcross in all the years I've raised waterlilies. A new pest, a threat to waterlilies. Not quite sure how to combat it!

Killer Vine!

It creeps up the side of a Patio Pond, silently stalking it's prey, then POUNCES! This vile plant killer slowly but surely strangels it's prey.

Oh what to do!?!?   :search:

I have killer vines in my garden, too.  Where did they come from?  And boys are they hardy.  Don't have any near pond thankfully.  My only suggestion, carry a blade to cut those suckers down!

I'd be really upset if that sight was in my pond!  >:(

I suggest not taking a nap by the pond or YOU could be next!

lol  Slip up silently behind the vine, remove the garden shears from your pocket, and stealthily snip it before it can grab onto your arm!  Oh and don't forget the rooted part down by your feet...make sure it doesn't creep up your leg!   :D

I can't see the leaf that well, but you'd better hope it's not Kudzu. It will consume half of your life, either looking for the pods, or cutting/pulling out the vines, and yes, they kill a lot of plants. If you can post a pic of the leaf flat, I can tell you for sure.

No, not Kudzu, I know that one. It ate my grandmother while she was sitting in her rocker on the front porch.
When I get up the nerve to go outside again, I have a design for a flame thrower I've always wanted to try out.

Of course none of the above is true, the summer heat is just getting to me.

LOL--as if we lily growers didn't have enough pests  ;D....the largest and most destructive pest on our place is the goats--they love the lotus and lily pads....

Hey, maybe you could loan Mike a goat?  lol They love vines. Then I'll lease one, since we are overrun with Kudzu down here! O0
