I see the plant is loaded with spines. I bet the turtles would leave it alone. Any experience?
Also: Where can I get one this spring?

You can limit its size to an extent by keeping it in a smaller pot and being stingy with fertilizer. Of course, that will reduce the likelihood of it blooming, too.

Jerry you can grow Euryale ferox it has thorns and is easy to grow from seed. I grow it every year. I have dwarfed it too or I can let it grow bigger even if dwarfed it blooms. But my koi rip up the leaves so I imagine turtles might too.

Sounds good Vickie. I am assuming it's a big one. Where is the source for seed?

Jerry, yes, the eurayale seeds can be shipped into Calif. I talked to my USDA inspector, and I have
approval to ship into Calif. And yes,I have seeds if you're wanting.
