Mikey, the cruise was fine...although, surprisingly, it was raining down in Baja ... I ended up staying on the boat the entire weekend...regarding the hibiscus, should I trim off any dead leaves or keep them on to protect what's left of the plants ?

It gets worse each time i look.  I am not a person that gets depressed easily, but this could do it.

Oddly enough the Hawaiian Plumeria, Frangapani seems un scathed, go figure!

Ditto on the Hibiscus,  Mike is right, wait and see.  I will leave mine alone 'til new growth appears, then prune off the dead stuff.

Jerry, that is all superficial damage.
I know it looks bad, but they will ALL recover.
I had much worse freezes on mine when I live in NC,
and they all came back like gangbusters.

I consider it Mother Nature's pruning. O0

My Dracaena Tree looks better now that it was frostbitten,
and branched out at all the trunks where the tops froze off. 8)

I remember that feeling looking out and seeing everything 'toasted'. :( :'(
But nothing died, even the plants I thought were VERY dead, came back from roots.
There was no frost forecasted that night, only low 40s, and it was VERY early in the season for NC. >:(

I'm so sorry to see all your plants looking so bad. They will recover though. I have plants in our garden that end up looking like that every winter and they come back. I leave them alone until the new growth comes out and prune out the dead stuff. My banana always comes back too from the root.
As Mikey says you will have lots of compost this year.

People in the know say the damaged foliage should be left alone until about March so as to act as a protective canopy for the remaining undamaged foliage should another freeze come along.

Jerry, from what I have heard other homeowners say, Buffalo Grass is not easy to walk on.
Very wide, stiff blades, shape edges to the blades, can actually cut your feet. :(

Joyce i am very familiar  with St Augustine, rough to be sure.  The outdoor writer told me the "Turfalo" is just a promotion for Buffalo grass.  The 2 grasses both have merit in the right place, just not here.
