The real question is: do your parents feel the same way? lol

congrats... O0

my only advice is to not do the things in a car that I did when I was your age.

uh... that would be: drive fast, drive recklessly, drink and drive, etc.!  Looking back, I took needless chances and all for the sake of peer pressure.  These days laws are more strict for younger drivers - and you can blame us older folks for that!
I'm broke and can't afford to pay attention, so you might have to lend me an ear.

Soon after our daughter got her driver's license I noticed our Ford Taurus had something wrong with the engine.  The engine ran fine but I couldn't figure out what the problem was and I took it in to our mechanic.  He quickly diagnosed the problem as a broken mounting bracket for the engine.  His question to me was, "Do you have any teens driving this?"  He said mounting brackets usually break due to the engine torque and often caused by quick acceleration, something he sees most frequently in cars driven by teens......  ;D

I was so lucky as a young driver, well, the first 15 years of driving. I could be in prison today if a couple of stunts had gone just a tad different.

What an exciting time for you!  I think girls are generally more careful than boys.

Yes, please put the phone away.  I have heard so many tragic storys about cell phones and new drivers.

Stay safe,
Karen

Yes talking on the phone isn't good...I was thinking more a long the lines of not getting drunk and racing your friends 80 mph down a road at night with your lights off.

I will be careful and I won't have my phone out while I'm driving. Haha I like my license and don't plan to get it taken away so no drinking and driving or racing for me!  :P  Haha I tend to accelerate kinda quickly too...  {:-P;;

I think girls are generally more careful than boys.

This thought has always baffled me because being in the auto industry for decades the insurance companies always had lower rates for women.  Yet much of the time when I am getting passed at some ridiculously high speed by an economy car it's a woman driving.  The other day I got unnecessarily cut off and the person was smack dab on the other driver's bumper for a half-mile.  Immediatly I said, "that guy's a jerk!"  but when the car pulled out of the lane and I drove past it was a younger woman.

But, to be fair, I think it's about an even mix... I've seen enough accidents managing a body shop to call it a draw!  lol

When I got my license, the only form of communication while driving was either talking to the person next to you or hollering out the window at the jerk that just cut you off!  Of course, there was "sign language", too!  lol

Congrats, Ms. R.  Do you have a car to drive?  Do your parents let you use the car as much as you want / need?  Do you feel confident driving alone?  And how was the exam?  Some of those testers can be pretty tough.

Julles, I have a 2006 PT Cruiser, my parents let me drive when I need to get somewhere, get my sister somewhere, or just have a good reason to do something. I feel pretty confident driving alone around town. The exam wasn't bad I only missed 5 points for turning to wide to avoid a curb...the only problem for me was manuverability the first time, I hadn't done it since drivers ed in June and had to go back to do it again. The second time I did it I had gone out practicing and I didn't miss any points on it at all. My tester wasn't too bad, he was pretty nice.

OK, it's time to hear from "the Mom"!!! She's been doing really good with her driving. She has been very careful to watch her speed and obey the laws.   {-)  Like she said, she doesn't want to get her license taken away so soon after getting it. She just got her parking permit for school so tomorrow will be her first day to drive to and from school.

Now, let's address all of those "I did" stories...do we NEED to give her so many ideas?! LOL  ::)
