zebra danios?
« on: February 02, 2012, 10:08:32 PM »
Does anyone keep zebra danios in outdoor ponds?  I know they are tropical but I was wondering if they would survive in some of the more southern states (TX, FL, southern CA, etc...).  If anyone knows about this or perhaps locations where accidental releases have survived, let me know.  Thanks!

White Cloud Mountain Minnows are a hardier alternative. I doubt danios would survive in temperate conditions.

Long-finned WCMMs are really good-looking fish, especially the males.

I agree with Yellow's posting information.

White Cloud minnows are from the cold streams of China.

I have about two dozen rosey red minnows in my pond - the pink variety.  Pet stores sell them as feeder fish.  They are hardy everywhere.  Max length 3", breed nicely.

You would have to quarantine them in an aquarium/etc. prior to introducing them to your pond.
