Probably way to early but I would like to purchase......
« on: January 19, 2007, 09:03:40 AM »
Momo Botan lotus for my container... if anyone is going to have any of these for sale, please let me know.  Also interested in a deal on bunches of siberian pink cups.. I am making gifts this year for a few of my family and friends with all those tons of extra lotus that I just "know" I did not kill with all the brutal transplanting this fall   :)

Tinkster, I went looking on the net and I found that this lady has 10 for sale for $15.98,  worth looking into, (she sells the same plants on e-bay(  http://cgi.ebay.com/Momo-Botan-dwarf-lotus-tuber-plant-double-flowers-NICE_W0QQitemZ160075809493QQihZ006QQcategoryZ43541QQcmdZViewItem )for $3.00 more each) so may as well save a little by using the LINK BELOW.... I bought three different lotus from Bonnie last year. Very nice lady. Good size lotus. The smallest was 8 inches. The largest was 16 inches. All three did well.

Here is a link to her site.
http://www.bonniesplants.com/Lotus1.html
It will save about a dollar over the ebay prices. That is how I bought mine. By the way, she evidently knows our own wonderful "Joyce".
Check out the whiskey barrel pics at the bottom of the lotus page.

Every plant I have ever gotten from Lawanna is alive, and thriving.  Every plant I have ever gotten from Bonnie Hale is not.

Lawanna,
I might be interested in a few if you have extra to sell in March. I do like the prices you spoke of and wouldn't mind a few new varieties.
The ones I got from Bonnie were fine but I don't know if I was the exception or the rule.  Perhaps Joyce will see this thread and give some more info as Bonnie indicates that they are friends.
Sorry you had a bad experience tammie dear.

What a great place! I just spent most the afternoon in there browsing. I need lots of plants and don't have any water plants to trade but anyone that can beat Bonnies great prices I will gladly buy from. Lawanna has already beaten her on the momo Botan witch is on my lest. I also want some Chameleon, Lobelia Queen Victoria, And much more. Anyone with spair plants hardy down to zone5-6 feel free to pm me. I have a 16'x21' pond and not near enough plants.

I am planning on giving away a several pots as gifts and I need them for myself and I dont like to wait ( I am learning a be patient really :)  ) and I have so many areas I want them.  So if after your done trading etc I would love to BUY, not just for postage since I am wanting big amounts, any you have left if not maybe tammie has bulk to sell??

Tink,
I will have momo botan...but, last year we had our goats get loose and they ate a bunch of my lotus tubers that were floating in barrels....My american Yellow and Perry's sunburst was included in their meal  :'(.....So this year I will have to get me another yellow and red...as they also ate my unnamed red lotus too  :'(.......If I get some this year...then I should have a few yellow and red by next spring....

Lawanna, visited your site, very well set up O0.  I have purchased online once and did not have great results(but I didn't research like I probably should have), I like the fact that you get such rave reviews here.  How well do plants travel for a long distance, doesn't seem like I can find an online place close to home.

Marla,
its all in the way that they are packed...and I ship all my plants priority....and if you have any questions on the best way to grow them...just ask...almost all aquatics have a water depth that they grow best in....just check on the depth and your usually o.k.....you would be suprised at how many pond plants are actually land plants that have been acclimated to water and then they change the name....for instance- money wort....If you buy it as an aquatic then it is called creeping jenny....also I send nice portions.... one of the reasons I started growing and selling aquatics is the puny portions I got when I ordered from some of the catalog nurseries.....and half of them wouldn't make it....I tooo only buy or trade with members on the forums....you get much better stock and if you have a question about something....you are much more likely to get the answer.....

Lawanna, Thanks so much for your response.  Yes the lilies I recieved last year were more like plantlets then tubers, really had to baby them and even then they didn't do to much.  I love playing with dirt plants and seeing which grows well in the pond.  Having high PH I've found even some aquatics tend not to like my pond.  However my chocolate mint, that should be an annual here thrives in the pond and returns yearly.  For quick color in the spring, I pop some violets in the rocks in the pond (after rinsing roots).

Thanks Lawanna got it.  Oh I remembered something I learned on a different forum about discissing pot's in the pond! You take Silicone seal and put it on the out side of the pot then stick rocks on it. Let it set up for 24 hours and voila! We have lots of gravel with a bit bigger rocks mixed, oh a bit bigger than pea gravel, so I thought I would paint or smear the sealer on it then roll it in the gravel. Then place some rocks along the top lip of those Hospital tubs I told ya about. I have round ones and the oblong ones. How doese that sound? BTW do you have any of that lovlie Baby Doll Lotus? I have got to have one!

so are  you saying your gonna put rock on the outside of the pot to hide it? if so...just give it a few months inside the pond it will cover with algae...you really can't see the pots once they do that....but, if you want to do the rock around the pot I'm sure it wouldn't hurt....Sorry I don't have the baby doll yet...it is on my want list....I try to get  a few more each year...I got several last year but, the goats got loose and into the pot that I had the tubers floating in and ate them  >:(-

Krylon makes spray paint now that works on plastic. Just spray them black and they won't show much. Easier than sticking on rocks to disguise them.
