Today is a sad day....
« on: January 22, 2007, 05:44:31 PM »
I got home from work today to find my beloved dobie dead.  It looked like he had passed away from bloat.  Which is very common for the deap chested dogs like him.  It is just so hard to accept right now since yesterday he was fine running around and playing like he normally would do.  Had he been sick or not acting right I would be able to accept this a little bit easier.  I had been trying to prepare myself for this day anyway, but never thought it would be this soon.  He just turned 7 on the 15th.  Right now the house is very quiet and that is making things a little more difficult.  I know several of you have gone through this recently, so I know you all understand what I am talking about. :'(

Lord, sorry to hear that. It's been about two months for me now, and while I know time heals the wounds, I figure it will have to be a whole lot of time.

I still tear up regularly.

How sad.  I am so sorry.

Sometimes these things happen unexpectedly.  We are never ready for things like this to happen.

Hugs to you.

Thanks everyone.  You are right.  You can never be ready for something like this.  It certainly doesn't get any easier the older you get either.  To most people they are just pets, to animal people they are family.  Somethimes the best way to grieve is with other fellow animal lovers that understand the emptiness they leave behind.  Thanks again for everyone's kind words.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry. I very much know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. I have also had dobies. The first one I had we lost at the age of 8 to cancer. The second one was 4 when she died suddenly of liver disease that we didn't even know she had. It is very hard when it is sudden and unexpected. The clock is ticking for my old dobie girl that I have now. She's very old but she just keeps on going. Try to busy yourself the best you can. I know you don't feel like it but staying busy helps. It is o.k. to grieve too, its all part of the process. Big hugs to you. :)

We had two dobies that we lost. Know how you feel. So helpless and you keep asking your self' is there anything I missed or could have done,or I should have been here'! The answer is no,but it doesn't help the hurt, only time will.
I tell people when they have lost a pet  is to get another one,not so much the same breed but one that will ease your sorrow and keep your mind on the new family member, you are not replaceing the pet you lost, just giving another animal love and affection and soon the pain will not be as great as it once was. And rescueing one from the pound or shelter, that pet will be so grateful and loving. I hope this helps and not add to your pain. Hugs and prayers for you.

Thanks everyone for your support.  It has been quite a week.  Monday not only did I loose my gardening partner but I also started taking a medical coding course at one of the local hospitals.   Will certainly stay busy with that.  I am enjoying the class so far.  The class meets 2 nights a week, so that will help keep me busy.  I am hoping that this will help me find a better job with better pay.  To top all of that off I have also been sick this week.  Came home from work Tuesday sicker than sick.  I feel much better today, but still can't shake this cough.

I am for sure going to get another dog/puppy (not sure which yet).  Not having a dog tagging along with your every move is very hard to deal with.  I have a cat but that just isn't the same.  She could care less if I am with her.  The only time she really cares is when she is hungry or wants her head rubbed.  Guess you can say I prefer dogs.  I am hoping to find another dobie but that will have to wait a little while. I have owned many different breeds but none have ever compared to the loyal and goofy nature of the dobie.  Those that have owned a dobie will know what I am talking about.  They don't call them velcro dogs for nothing. ;)
