Hospice called in
« on: March 23, 2012, 01:47:09 PM »
Just a quick update. Tuesday Matt let me know it was time to call in hospice. He has been getting weaker and feeling worse every day. Please pray for peace for him. He has been suffering so very much.

Kathy...I wish I lived close so I could give you a hug and just some in-person support. I hate that this is happening to Matt, you and the kids. No one will ever understand why cancer afflicks us, it is such a terrible disease. I will pray for comfort for Matt as well as the rest of you.
Hugs!!!

I found this on Facebook but even though I searched through Kathy's posts, I couldn't find anything about when Matt passed. Here is her post.

Please for all who can attend, we are having a casual service for Matt on Saturday at the King's Cove condo's Clubhouse in Rochester Hills. It is between Livernois and Rochester Rd off of Teinken. The address is 1131 Brookside Court, Rochester Hills Mi. at 5pm.
Please dress however you are comfortable.

Thanks everyone, Matt passes on March 26. He was only with hospice for 6 days. He was at home where he wanted to be.

We drove down to Pontiac, about a 3 hour drive and attended Matt's memorial gathering. It wasn't a service in the traditional manner but was still a very honoring and loving time. Kathy looked very pretty with ther long blonde hair and dressy black getup. Delaney too has beautiful long, kind of stawberry blonde hair and Kathy had put it in long Shirley Temple curls. Kathy's little girl looked so grown up. Doug is what 15-16 and was so cool and gentlemanly. He walked around getting acquainted with people---just like a business man. Matt's  chaplain sang Amazing Grace and offered a wonderful prayer. There was a grand layout of food and at 8:00 (which we didn't stay for) they released balloons with messages to Matt. Kathy and Matt's son played his guitar too.

Thank you Esther.
Matt had wanted his body donated to science for cancer research, so he was not able to be in "attendance", and Delaney begged me not to have a traditional Funeral. I couldn't put the kids through 2 or 3 days of agony, this family has been grieving for a looong time now. I did it the way I thought Matt would have wanted. He was a simple guy who cared only about his family and friends. Nothing pretentious about him-ever. it was important to me that everyone felt comfortable and for it to be as non depressing as possible, but more a celebration of his life and love.
The balloons had light sin them so they twinkled high up into the sky and Doug played Let it Be by Matt's favorite band, the Beatles, of course.
I've had so many compliments on the memorial. I am so glad you were able to come. Thanks again.
Kathy
