I think this might be my biggest Trickett bloom, ever....
« on: April 15, 2012, 06:57:19 AM »
It never really went down this winter, since I kept the pond heated for the pleco. He's a moose....but anyway, this lily has had 2 blooms a day since late last year. But something that struck me this morning, was the size of the blooms, and how big they are. I have big hands, so this surprised me. (Yeah, my nails are dirty, LOL, digging this morning lol...) It measures 8" across! This lily has had at least 1 open bloom on the water every day since about 2 weeks after I got it, last MAY. I feed it 1 food tablet about every 10 days.

Love this lily!

Thanks everyone. Here is a better one without my fat dirty hand in it,  lol

I spent the entire day outside today, because it was so beautiful. And I have to show this off. I have had this tea cup taro for about 5 years. It never did anything until I put it in the bigger pond. Now I can't keep it in a pot at all! It's getting to the point where I am going to have to start selling it.  lol. I'm going to post a pic when I first put it in the pond, and a pic from today.

Almost a year ago(I know, it's hard to see it! ;);

And, today. Now mind you, I have started other plants from the runners that I have clipped off of this. The ones behind in the planters- if you can see them, and 2 that I gave a neighbor. I'm glad it likes it's new home, but what to do when it takes over the pond?!? :o

For reference, the large leaves on this are 4-5 times the size of my hand! There are 4 runners on this one, and 3 shoots. The one in the back planter has 4 shoots now!

Oh, one more thing. I divided my lemon mist about 2 weeks ago, and there were 5 divisions. Within DAYS I had 3 buds, on 2 different plants, and the 2nd one of the 3 is what you see on the water. BUT, nothing coming on any of the 5 after that. They have been fed, and I am just mystified as to why immediately after I divided them, 2 had buds so fast. Can they have too many pads? Does the sun need to hit the crown? Seems though the ones that got the buds were the bigger of the two divisions, but there are 2 others that are close in size. One is very small. They all get fed the same as well. I would really like to keep them all blooming this year, as last year they were few and far between. Here the one from today. Any advice from lemon mist fans? Should I feed them more? Or keep their pads down to stimulate them? I am just not sure....I sat there last Sunday Morning- Easter, and watched one open-it was like watching paint dry...so slow, took about an hour. When the trickett opens, it's like POP-done. lol
