Morning visitor
« on: February 07, 2007, 07:25:28 AM »
At 8:12 this morning I snapped these pictures of a visitor to the pond.

This is the first time I've seen one of these in my backyard  :o, but I'll bet it's not the last.

Hopefully, the vertical sides and having nothing less than 20" deep to stand on will keep them out of the pond itself {nono}, but time will tell.

Momentarily forgetting all the evil things he/she has in mind for the fish, the Great Blue Heron certainly is a beautiful bird.

Keep Smilin'  :)

That picture is so cool. My poodle would be having a fit inside the house. He'd love to get out there and give that guy a good run for his money.

Uh-oh.  Hope all your fish stay safe, and he doesn't return.

Seeing a scene like this you almost feel like John Belushi from Animal House.

You have the little angel on one side saying "How beautiful, what a fantastic creature."

On the other side you have a little devil saying "Protect the fish...kill it...KILL IT!!"

Great photos!  Thanks for sharing.  Build it and they will come.....  I built my pond with straight sides and also planted a jungle around the pond that makes it difficult for large birds to easily take flight upon landing.  Prior to the jungle taking effect I had an occasional visitor but it has now been a couple of years since a large Egret landed.  I chased it off and it had a very difficult time escaping from me due to the heavy plant growth.  Occasionally a small Heron (Green Heron??) will visit and munch on my mosquito fish....

He's visited my pond too, but never got anything that I know of because of the steep sides, no place to wade and a bridge across the pond for the fish to hide under.  They are gorgeous to look at, though.

Right you are LeeAnne but I was trying to keep it clean as this is a family forum and another thread seems to have taken care of the nasty side of life...LOL.
