Grapes anyone???
« on: June 20, 2012, 01:13:35 PM »
I have several clusters of grapes this year. I got this as a broken branch 14 years ago when I first moved to Vancouver. I had it in a pot for 10 years with minimal growth, the last few years it has really taken off. This year I have more grapes than I will know what to do with. I just wish I knew what variety it is, all I know is it is a green seedless and is quite sweet.

Cheers,
Sean

I was told that the Thompson seedless grape requires lots of heat, so if that's true then you can rule out Thompson....

Are those grapes on an overhead arbor?  I love the look of that and it must sound really cool when it rains.  Are you planning on making any wine?   :)

Yes, they are. We built a 10' x 10' arbour with clear corrugated plastic on the top so we can sit outside in the rain.
The underside is covered with the grapes and a wisteria that I started from seed 14 years ago that is still yet to bloom.

This is a photo of our outdoor living room under the arbour. You can see the other half of the patio in the reflection of the mirror.

Not enough for wine this year but we will eat them for sure.

O my GOSH, what a gorgeous, relaxing space you have created!   8-)~ I would love to be able to do that, but here the winds are just too high, the plants might survive but I would never be able to find my furnishings!  :D I try to create little areas for relaxing, but the other night before the storm I was scrambling to move tables, pots, feeders around so they wouldn't get smashed or blown to the next county.

I am definitely envious!

Okay, I had to go back and look at that picture again.  :) There is so much to look at in that pic--are those phals on the table? And all the windchimes too. What a place to have coffee in the morning....<sigh>  8)

Thanks LuAnn,

That room is actually very untidy in this picture, We pile up furniture when it rains so the cushions will not get wet.
I do have the Phals out there for the summer, they should gain enough strength to bloom again when I bring them in before winter.
The wind chime is a memento from traveling through the Bay area of San Francisco
