« on: June 20, 2012, 01:21:15 PM »
I received a clump of this from Maryvonne several years ago, I get one bloom per year from it, this year I am fertilizing better and hope that there will be more blooms next year.

Cheers,

Nice

I had three blooms this year.  I need to cut them back this fall I think.

I had it for years and couldn't get more than three blooms from it.  I moved it every three years or so and nothing ever helped.  Gave a start to our son last year and this year I think he had eleven blooms!

Is there a trick to these? I know of a clump down the road from me in a sidewalk common area that bloomed heavily years ago but I have not seen in bloom in the last two years? I know it is a tight clump, perhaps dividing helps?

The clump Maryvonne gave me was large enough for two clumps so I do have two in my garden but one has never bloomed in the three or four years I have had it.

Cheers,

Here in California they're real popular and bloom in massive clumps.  I'm thinking maybe lots of sun and heat will do it.  Really want one but I have no more room for this great plant.  :'(

I have several in my yard (I'm zone eight). I love them and so do the hummers.  o(:-)

They need full sun and they take a couple of years to really take off once planted. I don't fertilize mine (although it probably wouldn't hurt) but I do make sure they get lots of water when they start to bloom. I find that extends the blooming period for me.

Good luck and I hope you get some nice blooms.

btw, I tried to post yesterday but the computer gremlin was messing with me.

My moms clump is huge planted in horrid soil, practically the only thing that blooms but it is covered.  Full sun.
