Algae?
« on: July 30, 2012, 05:43:15 AM »
Okay, I did a search and found no relevant topics.  I have a jelly-like agae on 2 of my smaller ponds. Greenish brown in color, it is hard to scoop out. I tried skimming , the toilet brush trick and bare hand removal, all to no avail. Any help out there?

Mary

Use a basket lined with polyester quilt batting and use it as a net to collect algae or place it under the water fall to catch small particles.  Change batting when full.  Make sure batting is the cheap polyester kind or you'll have another problem.  >:(

I have the same gooey stuff on the waterfall area. Scrape the stuff off and let it run into the basket?

We also have it on the waterfall rocks. As of last summer, our solution is to turn off the running water, pour hydrogen peroxide on it, and let it sit for a while - it kills the algae, turning it black, which is then taken to the filters.  We are needing to do that again today - waterfall rolls are pretty green.

How long would it take to kill the algae with the hydrogen peroxide? Do you clean it up before you turn the pump back on?
