Shuttle Endeavour tour of SoCal
« on: September 21, 2012, 08:09:26 PM »
The NASA 747 carrying the shuttle Endeavour flew over parts of northern and southern California this morning prior to landing at LAX.  I sat patiently in our patio, camera and binoculars nearby, waiting to see if I would be able to see it.  It was scheduled to do a fly-over the happiest place on earth and since I live about 7 miles from there I was hopeful it would come into view. I never made it to Cape Canaveral for a lift off nor out to our local desert to see a landing at Edwards Air Force Base, however I have experienced the double sonic boom several times when it had to land at Edwards due to bad weather in Florida.  I nearly missed the shot because I didn't have the camera in hand and the aircraft was moving much faster than I anticipated.  I got a few distant shots.  The LA Times has some great shots of the shuttle as it made its SoCal tour.  Below is a Facebook link to my photos

Nice pix Mike.  The TV coverage was massive.  Nice you saw it live!
Amazing how many the politicos were there for the reflected glory.

Great shots, Mike!  I was glued to the TV while I worked.  Only wished I could have gone somewhere to see it in person too.  But I did hear the engines roaring in the distance!  Too Cool!

Did you guys see Doug Mcintyre's column in the Daily News?  Valley gets ignored again!
NO Flyover. JPL is here, the Skunk Works and the engines were made in Canoga Park.
If this were a city im might be one of the biggest! :'(

My neighbor was raised in the San Fernando valley and he still maintains contact with friends who live there.  He said the valley residents basically keep LA afloat and yet they receive very little in city services.  Sidewalks, if they even have them, haven't been repaired in decades and now the city is considering changing the charter to state the home owner owns the sidewalk and is therefore responsible for its maintenance.  Tree trimming is something like 30 years behind schedule.....

When they announced it would be flying over JPL I was hoping Mike would get a good photo.
