Spring doesn't come when it's only 28 degrees in Atlanta . . . . .

60 by Monday here..I think I see spring coming :) and weirdly enough the green water in the lily pond cleared overnight and is clumped up. The fish are coming to the surface. It's SO nice to see them.

Dang! 75* Plus today! @O@  Nice change, but we have had very little rain.
All the trees are blooming and the daffodills are beautiful, but we still need bunches of rain and snow in California!
Crossing my fingers for a wet end to Feb and a wet march!
I'll be planting vege seeds this weekend for an April 15th plant date. Planting in the Green House.

Spring?
It might be spring somewhere, but not here. Was out icefishing today. High of 14 and very windy. Brutal

BTW, spring didn't come to mind :)

Nice pictures!
I am so jealous, but happy for you. I got real happy today that the snow melted just enough that I could see the top of my (15" tall) Bickal deicer.  :-\

My only hope for the health of my fish is that I culled heavily in the fall. Pure laziness that I didn't cover the pond as I should.

Was out icefishing today.

We like to watch the ice fishing on our lake. We sit in our heated van and eat lunch, watching them. As wimps, we can not understand why a person would stand in such brutal temps, trying to catch a fish. Do they actually catch enough fish for dinner?
Makes me think of the Inuit, toasty warm in their -6* igloo while it is -65* outside. Brutal is the only word.

Thanks Karen. That koi is the only baby I couldn't catch last fall so he is staying. I found someone to take all my culls so I didn't have to destroy them.. I hope your fish have done well during the winter. When does it normally thaw there? We've had more ice this year than I can ever remember.

It is here...

I saw snow drops blooming all over the place when I came home from work the other day. I have crocus and daffodil coming up here as well.
My tropical waterlilies are beginning to send pads to the surface of the water now also.

Cheers,

Kay, Thanks for the well wishes. I have covered my pond with a dome for a few years now, so I've forgotten the right time frame for the thaw. I am hoping that the end of March will bring some thawing. I really only have one koi that I'm praying for.
I'm glad you couldn't catch the little fella- he's a cutie!

Thanks Karen :). Does the dome keep your water temp stable? How does it hold up in the snow and ice? I'm looking to cover mine next year.
Oh Daisy..I feel for you. About 3 weeks ago we had 5 inches of ice on our walk leading to the greenhouse that I had to chip off and remove.
Sean,
Mexicana and Patio Joe are putting up pads here. The tulips are starting to show. Robins are showing up. A sure sign of spring here.

Steve,

The cold has gotten to you!  You need to unfreeze your grey matter....you cannot say "high" and 14 degrees in the same statement.  Talk about an oxymoron.<g>

The Florida weekend in porcine paradise still awaits should you get back to your right mind.  I'd be there myself, but at 30 F here this morning....not worth the suffering.<g>

Craig, funny you would the word "high" and 14 degrees was an oxymoron....I was just saying to DH yesterday as I ran errands in the latest 18 inches of snow we received (and the temperature was a sunny, warm 14 degrees!) that it actually felt warm and I went store to store as the wind blew threw my hair with my coat unzipped!!  Turned the heater down in my car and cracked a window....yup, I'm definitely used to it by now.  But some green, I could definitely appreciate looking at some green!!  o(:-)

Craig,
Today got all the way up to 26, sunny and beautiful, washed the explorer, turned off the furnace in the garage and bopped around the house in boxers and a t-shirt.  (the wood stove is in it's glory when it's not below 0 deg.) Felt like spring in the air.  o(
Tomorrow I was looking forward to a warm up as I'm going fishing at 7 am with my buddy.
But, not to be. 0 deg when I leave, with a high of 15 and back to 1 deg, but then a big warm up--40s by mid week.
turned the garage furnace back on. I keep it at 40.

I love to fish for bluegills and walleyes through the ice. So far this winter, have been catching lots of gills. yum yum!!

My husband and I spent yesterday with pickaxes removing the solid ice block that the snowplow had left at the end of the driveway next door, where an 81 year old widow lives by herself. I am so sore today in muscles I didn't even know I had! She had been blocked in since the storm began Tuesday, poor woman.
