Snowy Feb.
« on: February 25, 2007, 08:39:29 AM »
Well, I got dug out for the second day in a row.  This was some heavy stuff today! We must have 1 1/2' by now with some more on the way.
This is a summer and winter shot of the fountain pond along with a couple others.

Yup, that's the stack (fence) next to the alley.
The big stack of wood next to the driveway is gone now.  I have just brought in the last of it. This is my fence stack of wood. I really hate to take it down and burn it, but that's what is going to happen. I might need a little of it yet this winter. Next summer I'll take the whole thing down and cut up and split a new fence.

Still snowing here, this morning I had to go out and dig out the area where the bubbler is,  noticed that the snow had actually sunk down into the water.  I had to dig quite a ways back to find a clear open water way to the small fountain pump.  I think the warm weather at the beginning of the week may have made this area less icy maybe soft enough that it could not hold all the snow.  Hoping that the other end of the pond where the fish normally hang out has some good water depth, the thought of losing fish is not thrilling to me.  Did put the shovel handle down in the snow and hit ice (with a good 18" of snow on top) so I'm a bit more hopeful.

I have a clear glaze of ice over my pond at the moment where I can see them slowly moving around under there.  Temps have warmed up around 40* today after freezing rain last night.  I shut my pump off after the water froze coming out of the hose during those minus degree temps we had for a month.  I put a stock tank deicer in the pond, and turned it on just long enough to keep a hole opened up at the top.  Jeez, I'm tired of winter   >:(-   But the snow looks so much better I think, than all of the MUD and is pooling everywhere in my driveway!  It makes me so crabby to try to keep my pants legs clean getting from the house to the car   Thanks, I feel better now.....

Wow, what a comparison.  We have had warmer weather this past week with rain this weekend.  The ground is still white, but everything is dirty, soggy and nasty.  The pond is half thawed but I still can't see my fish.

I typed up a reply then my cat stepped on the keyboard and everything left.  Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
Anyway...I was saying I can probably make many of you feel better. We had 6 inches of new snow last night. It started out as icy sleet so that made the streets bad right off the start. Most church services were canceled for this morning. The last time that happened was 12 years ago. Our White Pine lost 2 large limbs that are about 25' long. This poor tree is 50 years old, 60' tall and has withstood being struck by lightning, 3 ice storms, 50 mph straight line winds and now this.
But....would I consider moving? No way!!!! Most of my best friends live here and our extended family members. And by now I'm pretty much a polar bear anyway so I'm used to this stuff. I haven't ventured out to our pond. There isn't much I could do right now anyway if there is a problem so why stress myself out???

I love your fountain pond Steve. It's spring time down here now. Guess I'll start feeding my fish the first part of March.

Great Pix Steve. I would love to see what else you have under all that snow!

I'm stunned, I don't know what to say... Except to say there is no way I could deal with that!  I'm cold if the temp drops below 73*!
How come your swings and wooden stuff don't rot?  Here a wood swing wouldn't last...  And your poor doggies!

Well anyone who misses it can come right over, I just woke up to a fresh new 4 or 5"  :swear: The good news is the last 4" we got melted off, unlike earlier in the year when it dumped and froze each time.
