A wind swept tree
« on: March 01, 2007, 02:37:28 AM »
I some of my antrim coast photos on the other boards some people found the wind swept trees appealing, this is perhaps the best of them. It 'lives' on the top of the approach to "murlough bay" on the Antrim coast, that road is one car wide, heaven knows how old the tree/bush is but I think I remember it from at least 20 years ago

It goes to show how constant pressure can change the direction that things grow and I don't mean just trees. Nice picture Sean.

That is stunning!

As a hobby Bonsai artist, I must say that I would love to attain just one specimen that looks that beautiful.
It's amazing how nature can mold the way a plant grows.

A good eye for composition there Sean!
Clearly, you did not have to worry too much about sun-block while taking this shot.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike its interesting you should mention the composition, someone on a UK board did too. I am afraid I cant take credit for composition as such or it wasnt a conscious thought, I simply went to a place from where the tree's shape was most clearly visible. The comment on the UK board regarded shooting against a 'blank' background which I admit has worked quite well but wasnt in my head at the time. I will have to bare these things in mind in future as they are true. I think on a clear day that shot would be equally as dramatic though because where the tree is the background would probably be close cropped grass or empty sky, not far beyond the tree the land and road drop steeply to the sea.

It is hauntingly beautiful. Looks like a prfessional picture.
Love the shape. Some of the trees in Aruba are shaped like that, due to the constant wind across the island.
