I tried all sorts of things including rocks to hide it.  now the tradescantia's seem to be doing the trick. The poor planning made a custom made extra long spillway a must. Worked fine but looked like a kiddy slide!

Before and after.
Since these photos, the spillway is totally obscured. in fact I must trim the trailing plants.

Is the plant that is hiding the spillway what I would call Wandering Jew?

Jerry,
It seems that you did a good job hiding the metal spilway, but you need to do something more permanent long term. How about some type of fake rock that you have some of, or building up a creek type bed.
Just a thought.
The rest of your yard is quite amazing.
Does it take a lot of work?
And comming from Wisconsin, does everything die back in the winter or is this a 12 month a year project?

Don't you just love it when something finally works!

Are the neighbourhood kiddies disappointed in losing their waterpark theme ride?

Cheers,

Funny one Mike!  Will we see you on the 10th?

Steve, yes it's work, but i like it so it matters little.  I tried rocks, but looked bad.  i think a molded  facade would work well, but it is well beyond my skills.
I hurt my back too,  I have never had a back problem, ever.  I am improving and still ok on the treadmill, but it sure has slowed down my yard work.  With the parrty coming I'd like things to look like I know what I'm doing! :D

That looks very nice Jerry, and since you don't have winter like some of us do, it can stay looking beautiful all year long!   8)

I shall definitely be there Jerry. A highlight of the northern Los Angeles gardening calender - and the food is superb!

Luann, no winter like the north and east, but it does get cold and windy, and the plants do get "ratty" looking, but it beats snow, unless of course you love snow!
So Cal is not a tropical climate, but rather a Mediterranean one.

Good news Mike. At this point it looks like a small event, but we will do it anyway.

Looks good, but it'll look even better if you let it keep growing . . . . then it will look like that plant is dripping the water into the pond.  Oh, but it might start dripping the water outa the pond and that would be bad.

Oh wow, yup its gone  @O@ .  Doesn't it give you a great filling when something like that happens.  Kind of like me, never got one side of my falls done.  But the banana trees, elephant ears and canana's grew so big (the reason I didn't get it done, between rain in the spring and them growing).  I had my daughters b-day party, and no one ever noticed it wasn't done....what's the saying.  don't fix what's not broken....something like that, in the fall when I dig up the plants, then I'll have to fix it..

Looking really good, Jerry!

Thanks again!

The secret on growing things is the same as in real estate, location, location, location![/b]
Most, in my experience, failures have to do with poor placement.
The humidity around the pond must be a big boost for many plants.
