I also run my aquarium stuff through it, from the plastic plants,
filter parts, fake underwater stumps, to the rocks.
Gets rids of all the embedded algae. O0

Haven't tried engine parts yet.  lol

I have never used my dishwasher for anything but dishes.

I know my rubber gardening clogs can go through, it said so on the box when I bought them but I've never done it.
I guess I think "Yuck". But, I'd really like to clean them, hand wiping doesn't work so well and I wear them in public and they look awful.

I've got some algae and Java moss coated rocks and plastic filter parts in my aquarium......

What else can I clean in the dishwasher?

Do you run it empty afterwards? Is there a filter or something that should be cleaned??

It really is just a simple machine. It cleans, rinses and that's it.
It doesn't care what it cleans, and no I don't run it empty. There is nothing to clean, you just use it.

I don't ever eat out. I love to cook and make wonderful meals. the process of cooking, is something that I love to do. Anybody wanting to check it out is welcome.

I couldn't agree more.  Granted, We don't have a lot of engine parts that I need cleaned (except maybe our errant, misbehaving snowthrower  >:(- ), but a person can run practically ANYTHING through the dishwasher! I do Legos and toys all the time. And fish stuff (filters, etc).  :)

I can personally vouch for Eagle Eye's cooking... especially the delicious Venison kebobs.  o(:-)

LOL!!!  Me thinks you need to invest in a parts washer!  I will not tell my husband what you did because he will want to try it just to see how good of a job it does.  Lucky for me he does have a parts washer!

Karen,

Thanks -
Cindi,
A parts washer is totally different. It uses solvent to degease. It would be nice to have one though.

I wash the filter media in the clothes washer on slow speed. But it is kind of hard on the media.

Years ago, we were digging potatoes and I couldn't bear throwing out the tiny ones and was too lazy to wash them one by one by hand. So after rinsing them with the hose, I put them in the washer without soap of course and on gentle cycle and it did a wonderful job. Of course I didn't let the washer go into the spindry etc.

The dishwasher here is out of bounds too. I've explained to my husband that his next wife isn't likely to allow it either if he tries it. I did however reluctantly allow him to re-sleeve and outboard engine by heating the aluminum casing in the oven and cooling the steel sleeve insert it in the fridge before we pressed them together.
He is considering powder coating but he knows it won't be in the oven. He's already gathered bits and peices to build his own powder coating oven in the shop. He tells me that he will be able to make some really neat garden ornaments and pond fittings. The common joke around here is that he makes birthday cakes in the shop, but they come in bakery boxes. He claims it for presentation purposes.
There is no such thing as functional fixidous in this house.

LOL my dear friend Kurt did that in his mother's oven and freezer. I remember it very well. The entire house stank from the grease in the oven. She came home from work, we were in highschool, Anne was not a happy camper. His house in Phoenix has an oven in the garage, he claims to keep the heat from the house but I'm not sure I believe him....LOL ;)

Maryvonne,
I also have a powder coating set up, but curing in the same oven that food goes in is a big NO NO! My mom gave me a convection oven (which she got at an estate sale) for my birthday along with some cookie dough. I had to tell her that the cookie dough would never see the inside of that oven, it will be used for curing powder coat.
She said that she wasn't suprised. ;D

I washed some very weird things in our dishwasher a few weeks ago as well.  Our 3 year old is in the midst of potty training, and I just couldn't get his plastic seat and foot stool to smell, uh, fresh after awhile.  I cleaned it and cleaned it, and it still had a faint urine smell.  In a fit I put it in our empty dishwasher, and washed it for a bit.  Alone, not with any dishes!  I took it out after 20 minutes or so and let the dishwasher finish washing, empty.  Kind of cleaning it.  Pretty gross, huh?  But the potty seat and stool smelled fresh and clean afterwards.   :D

 O0 O0

A church I used to attend did dinner plays at Christmas time where attendees were fed a prime rib dinner that included a potato.  They would run their potatoes through the dishwasher prior to wrapping in foil and baking.

I wouldn't mind eating from dishes that were washed in a machine that had washed motorcycle parts but I think I would break out the paper plates if I knew the dishwasher was used to wash a toilet seat :o ;D

I've washed a lot of things in the dishwasher other than dishes.  I tend to hand wash the dishes cuz there aren't that many after just one meal and I don't have enough for several meals without washing . . . . But the dishwasher does a great job on flower pots, aquarium stuff (never from the turtle tank tho), kids toys that have had bad things happen on them, salmon, wool that needs felting without losing too much size, freshly dyed wool that needs curing, etc.

Um, I do have a husband and since he wouldn't approve, I hope you can all keep your mouths SHUT!

Whats the matter with filling the bath with diesel?
If you are machine washing them then make sure nothing can fall into small threaded holes etc, it can be a VERY tedious job cleaning those out. I had some stuff blast cleaned some years back and the beep beeps didnt use the blanks I provided, it took me months to clean out the bolt holes.

I must have led a very boring life, considering the lack of strange things I've washed in the dishwasher.  :'(

We have macaws in the states and I always washed their toys and perches in the dishwasher to get all the bird poop off.  Works great.  I washed their dishes there too along with our dishes but I put the perches in by themselves.

OK Mikey about your comment on using dishes washed in the dishwasher after something gross was washed. Um when you eat popcorn, how do you get the popcorn from the bowl to your mouth?  ;) Where has that hand been?  {nono}  Have you washed it for 10 minutes in boiling hot water and strong disinfectant soap and then rinsed it in more boiling hot water for another 10 minutes?  :thinking:I don't think so.
