hello , hope you all had a pleasant summer . temps last couple weeks have been in 30 to 40 range and no ice on pond . next couple days expected to be 55 to 65 can i feed the fish or is that bad . they have been trying to feed from surface . thanks . . . peace and merry christmas to all .

Go by water temperature and whether it is going to stay warm enough for at least a couple days.  If my water temps are above 50 F and are going to stay that way (especially overnight), then I feed mine.  They need time to digest.  Also, use a food meant for spring and fall.  The greater your water volume, the longer it takes to cool, so that's also a factor to consider when feeding.

Mine seem to loose interest when the water cools down to about 50*.  There is plenty of moss in my tanks to hold them over for the winter.

We've had a "skim" of ice over the Thanksgiving weekend then it warmed back up in the high 60's for a couple of days.  Now we have snow on the ground, but it will warm back up tomorrow.

fish came through the winter with ''flying colors'' , heron is ecstatic . . . peace
