Those are nine weeks old? What do you feed those things?  ;D  I like the shape of the foliage.

How long before they produce?  Do you need a male & female plant in order to get fruit?

Hi Kay,  I feed most everything  Osmocote.  For many years I used  14-14-14 thinking I had at least 3 to 4 months of slow release food for the plants until I read charts on how fast the food is released at temps of 90 degrees or more ( or somewhere around there ).  I buy two or three hundred pounds a year in fifty pound bags. When I read it was dumping its contents  in about a month at those temps, my head spun around.   Well as it turns out, osmocote 13-13-13 is rated at about 9 or 10 months at lower temps and at our Oklahoma Dutch Oven  temps from mid June on I get a three to four month release rate.  Hope that makes sense but anyhow  I get an actual 3 to 4 month slow release fertilizer using  13-13-13 at high temps.  So don’t buy 14-14-14 unless it’s for cool season or greenhouse use. ;)

Yo Mikey,  the parent plant that these seeds came from is in the photo below and required no other plant to produce fruit, so it must have been a  dioecious plant, but I’ve read that they can be monecious, so I guess I was lucky with the parent plant.  Since it was a gift and was about two or two and a half feet high already when it was brought to me and I have no idea how old it was but I will be posting the progress on thes new ones.  I think I read something on changing the sex of a plant but I can’t remember the growers web address. :)

Quote
Flowers: The five-petalled flowers are fleshy, waxy and slightly fragrant. Some plants bear only short-stalked female flowers, or bisexual (perfect) flowers also on short stalks, while others may bear only male flowers, clustered on panicles 5 or 6 feet long. Some plants may have both male and female flowers. Others at certain seasons produce short-stalked male flowers, at other times perfect flowers. This change of sex may occur temporarily during high temperatures in midsummer. Male or bisexual plants may change completely to female plants after being beheaded. Certain varieties have a propensity for producing certain types of flowers. For example, the Solo variety has flowers of both sexes 66% of the time, so two out of three plants will produce fruit, even if planted singly. How pollination takes place in papayas is not known with certainty. Wind is probably the main agent, as the pollen is light and abundant, but thrips and moths may assist. Hand pollination is sometimes necessary to get a proper fruit set.

Jerry.  While reading this link I remembered that I was toying with the idea of planting a papaya and I would likely have lost mine as well.  So far Iv'e confirmed loosing to the freeze one plumeria, one tropical cactus/succulent and my mango.  I had a large potted fig tree and today I dug out the mango, replacing it with the hardier fig from the pot....

Mike, oddly enough the Plumeria fared pretty well.  Looks like the Hibiscus are kaput.

It looks like foxtail fern. I had linked to a picture on the net to Dave's Garden as well as plant file information from them for you. Evidently the Dave's Garden issued warnings and Jerry had to delete the post. Sorry Jerry.
Just do a google search on foxtail fern and you can see the info on the plant.

It looks like foxtail fern.

Yes, Foxtail Fern is the common name, but extremely misleading. {nono}
It's a type of asparagus, specifically: Asparagus densiflorus. 8)

The more sun it grows in, the more bushier and more compact the 'foxtails' will grow.

Does NOT like the same growing conditions as a fern. :no:

I need  a source for Papaya seeds.  Sure I have gotten them at the supermarket and the seed did fine, but I would like a fairly cold tolerant variety. HA! the ones I lost in the frost were cold tolerant.  Mexican mountain Papaya , i believe.
