Hiding the barrel liner lips- fun project!
« on: March 21, 2007, 06:03:06 PM »
I was just reading Joyce's thread about whiskey barrel liners, and I remembered a cute thing I did to cover up the lip. This pic is from June of '05, and it still looks good.

I didn't like the lip showing, so I glued glass blobs all over it using clear silicone sealer/glue. Purchased the blobs at the "Dollar" store.

It was a fun project!

OOOOOOOO, that is very pretty I like it, it must sparkle pretty in the sun.  Did it cause any leaf burn?

Karen, that is a great idea!   O0  One could use a matte finish or natural looking stones or even tile pieces too.
Thank you....:)

Very nice, great idea ;)
It would also coordinate nicely with my bowling balls :)

I was at the Dollar General Store today and they had small bags of these for only $1 which I'm sure 2 bags would be enough for one large pot.

They had the round ones plus also had shapes of butterflies and shells ! O0

Thanks for all the nice comments!
Kittyzee, Lots of people call me Kay.. as in "K" or "Ka"  :)

Butterflies and shells? Humm! Sounds like I need to go to Dollar General!  ;)

You probably can't tell from the pic, but there are little fishies in the mix. I found a bag of them, but never found them again when I went back.

LeeAnne, I actually got the idea from Limolady (remember her? I miss her!), who glued frogs all around her pots. Really, you could do anything. Shells for a seaside theme, etc. We find beautiful rounded/flat rocks around Lake Michigan and I would love to try that.

Marla, No leaf burn. However, I've noted that kids blowing bubbles nearby will definitely cause leaf burn.  >:(-

Indiana Karen, Yup! Coordinates very nicely with bowling balls. They will be on my lookout come "Garage Sale" season. I've always wanted to make one.

At a plant show last year there was a person who makes ceramic tiles to fit a barrel rim. They look very nice but they are quite pricey. She's even making a set-up for electric wire to top it to keep the raccoons out...

I'm bumping this because I just bought the glass blobs at Micheal's for a dollar a bag and want to be able to find it again. It is a great idea and well worth more people seeing it.

Karen, did you use any kind of grout? Or just stick them down with the silicone?
