Beginner's Luck???
« on: March 22, 2007, 07:32:12 PM »
It has to be for this to happen for me....... o(
I potted up my Tropical w.lilies yesterday & to my surprise several of them had (babies or are they tubers?)
I started out with 27 ( mostly from trade's & I bought some from LouAnn .....only a few... {:-P;;  ) and ended up with 52  . I did lose 4 , Tina, Green Smoke , & 2 other's.
I overwintered them like Sean , he posted how he does it & It worked for me!   @O@

SheliaJ,
They all fit in 2 clear rubber maid tub's . I put them in plastic bag's with their name tag's & used a twisty tie too keep them in the bag.

Hi Bonnie,

You did a good job. The unfortunate part is most people do not believe how easy it is to over winter tropical waterlilies indoors. They are tougher than everyone thinks and I believe more people should be trying to grow them and just winter them indoors.

Cheers,
Sean

Overwinter? For me that's not the problem it's over summer and a lack of consistent heat. My lotus puttered along last year till we had record breaking heat—then they threw up leaves and flowers with in a week. If Al Gore is correct, maybe I should try them now?...

Good job.  Two out of my three made it through the winter.  I haven't gave up hope on my third one yet.  Hopefully, it will do something soon.

Bonnie, wow that is a lot of lilies.  Last year the ones I had gotten were very small and didn't do well, so I put them in their pots in the basement in a preform pond, no heat, but grow lights.  They have survived this way but if they grow good I'll save the tubers in the bag next year as I plan to add to the collection this year.  To bad about Green Smoke.  That is one I want to get in the future.
