Getting 'Round 2 It!
« on: April 01, 2007, 11:24:00 AM »
Finally divided my Baby Doll today. @O@
It was sharing the tub with Siberian Pink Cups (Baldellia ranunculoides)
and Sagittaria 'Silk Stockings'.

Please send me a PM reminder including your mailing address for those I promised to share these with.
Note: Some people here will see that I don't need a reminder.  ;)
(but I may still need your mailing address via PM)

Wish there was smellovision.
Washed my hands at least a dozen times and they still smell like low tide. :o
Come on, give a girl a hug!  o(:-)

That's a stink on me that I will never forget. It's worse than standing next to the septic tank guy when he's cleaning it.. Yikes..plug your nose.

Kudos, Joyce! What a job indeed.

I dumped my two lotus tubs over this morning too- they are 2-foot diameter and 2-foot tall plastic tubs. The plants in them were two years old, and I have enormous tubers up the wazoo.
Uhhh...that last sentence came out kind of badly but I'm gonna leave it there because it's funny  :D

I had originally filled the tubs with alternating layers of compost and hay to keep them lighter than all-dirt (they were still over 100 lbs. each) to facilitate moving them into the enclosed porch for the Winter. You guys were skeptical when I posted about it, but it seems to have worked out quite well. Lots of flowers.

After two years would you believe that much of the hay at the bottom and center was still intact and not decomposed a bit?

Laurw...
Wow....that is amazing! Who da thunk? :)
(that the hay didn't decompose, not the tubers up the wazoo.)   ;)

One year I put a 3" layer of fresh grass clippings at the bottom of one of my barrels before I planted it with lotus....it did better than all the rest. Of course when I did dump it out, it stunk to high heaven.  :P
But apparently lotus loves to grow in stinky stuff. (8:-)
By the way, the grass clippings were decomposed down to about a 1/2" layer, if that.

Peeyooooo....my hands still stink. :o
And I even used Crabtree & Evelyn Gardeners handsoap and then the same Hand Cream.
Peace to all  ... Joyce

Great job! I  repotted a few plants and fertilized others in the pond this weekend so I can relate to the smell.

Thanks so much for sharing.
