Sealing Pot Holes
« on: April 01, 2007, 07:22:00 PM »
I like some plastic containers (they are plastic but they simulate clay look), but they are standard plant containers with 3 holes at the bottom. Is there a way to seal the hole so that the pot can hold water for waterplants?

TIA!

I would say you could put some silicone in the wholes and it will seal them up just fine.  Just make sure they are good and clean, so the silicone will stick.  Also, use waterproof.  Its like aquairum sealer, but you can get a bigger tube in the hardware section that does the same thing.

Got to thinking, the silicone would go through the hole.  So, maybe placing a piece of duct tape over the holes on the outside, and put the silicone on the inside.

Ponds are like patato chips, ya just can't have one.

Or JB Weld. And yes, I'd duct tape one side and fill the hole and then duct tape the other side and maybe put a layer of your sealant over the little piece of duct tape.

I always use plumbers putty - just grab a bit and smush it into the hole.  It has to be replaced about every 5 years or so, but it seals it completely without duct tape or any waiting.  And it's cheap . . . .

You might be able to find rubber bungs the right size at a hardware store or plumbing supply place.
