Right now there isn't much change. I listened to the doctors making their rounds this morning (didn't understand a lot though) and what I heard was that he is stable and improving. There are fewer tubes and wires creeping out of his body and out from under the covers. There were 7 little electronic boxes hanging from the rollaround IV cart, blinking and beeping Saturday and now there are 4. That must be good huh? He of course is miserable not being able to talk. We are miserable not being able to understand him.

Today I took up a small stereo that has a 3 CD player and programmed it to repeat them over and over. He has been a Christian for lots of years and the old hymns of the faith are dear to him. So we took instrumental music. He immediately layed his head back and began to swing his left arm like he was keeping time or directing. Tonight after Naomi, his wife of 1 1/2 years, left. I began to quietly sing along with the music and tears began to creep out from under his lids. I hope it was that he was touched that I would sing to him. I rubbed his forehead with a damp washcloth and finally I knew he was very asleep so I left.

Tomorrow I'm going to give blood. They have had to give him blood a couple of times I think so I think I should pay back.

If mine is O and his is A, does that mean my mother's was O?

I haven't posted to this in such a long time, but I've been reading it.  I'm so sorry that this is still going on.  Please know that, even if I don't say so, I'm thinking of you and your family and praying that things go smoothly and healing happens quickly.  How nice that you could sing to him and even nicer that the hymns provided him some comfort.

My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.  Stay strong, and atomistic.  The feeding tube sounds like a good idea, it will help with the nourishment.  Wish I lived closer I would help any way I could.  I know first hand how it is to have a loved one in the hospital for a leghthy stay.

Esther.......i'm glad to hear things are no worse. Would your father be able to write? If so, they have real small dry-erase boards. You could get one and he could write to communicate with you.

Shanna, that might be a good idea of the dry erase board. I did take a clipboard and paper up. I found a large ball point pen that had a large  grip on it but he just didn't have the energy to write with it. But the board might be better and the marker is larger too.

Good news, I think. Tomorrow if things go well tonight, he is being moved to a rehab hospital. It evidently has all levels of care while providing the rehab. We'll see how that goes.

Yup, he went to the rehab hospital. It is much quieter, with a lot less hubbub. It isn't as fancy but clean and spacious. He's on the 6th floor which is the top floor. I told him he had a penthouse suite. I suspect that the move wasn't easy on him but he'll get a lot more rest.

I talked with the attending doctor and he said they would start some therapy tomorrow already even though it is Saturday.

This place doesn't have the valet parking, a huge parking ramp, or a fancy schmancy cafeteria but who cares if they have good service for the patient. They do have food service from 11-1 and vending machines so I won't starve.
