Hello Everybody
« on: April 28, 2007, 05:23:19 PM »
i'm new here but I really love this site. Hurricane Rita left us with a really large hole in the ground when a huge oak tree blew down. i'm finally getting the stump ground down next week and we are going to put a pond where the hole is and add on.

I don't know anything about it, but I bought a book and found this site. I really like what I've seen so far and will probably have a gazillion questions.

Everybody seems real nice and I have already learned quite a bit just reading here, I learned that I have a lot to learn and a lot of work to do but it will all be worth it if I can keep the sheepdog out of the pond once it's made. She loves water.

Tinkster, the rocks around your pond that you made are really cool. I'm going to try my hand at it as I priced a pallet of natural fieldstone at $350.00 I'll buy some natural rock, the Mica was really fine.

Our local terrain is swampy so we have all of the free lilly pads and water hyacinths free for the taking. My wife works for a pet store and in a shipment of fish she found a tadpole. She brought it home and raised it in a small tank, it was a leopard frog when it grew up. We took it to the creek and released it yesterday.

I know that once I get the pond in, the frogs will just find it. I'm glad that I found this site.

Welcome Bullfrog. You do that those of us who have ponds and like our frog inhabitants are just a little leary of bullfrogs, don't you?  :( There are all kinds of stories going around about how bullfrogs will eat anything they can get in their mouths. I once saw a picture of one with a bird in his mouth. At least we know you won't eat any of our frogs. LOL

Texas huh. We have some members there.  One is in Richardson. I know another lady who has a pond in  Orange Texas.

Anyway, you have a gazillion questions huh? Quest away. Somebody here will be sure to know the answer.

We have members who have every where from a pot of water on the deck or patio to members who are experienced Koi/fish growers, photographers, pond/waterfall builders, waterlily/plant growers and some have huge bodies of water or several smaller ones.  The rest of us are just having fun stumbling along keeping our fish and plants alive and pond water clear and healthy and taking pictures of it all. By the way, we ask questions of all sorts, not just pond related. As you see, we have several sub forums so if it doesn't fit the pond related ones, stick it in the chat side. Somebody is sure to have an opinion or answer or know somebody who does.

Greetings Bullfrog! Nice to meet you. I think you'll really like it here. A lot of great people with lots of excellent advice. You're right about the frogs finding the ponds. I put my 1st small preform one in 2001 and I've had frogs ever since. Most of mine have been bullfrogs, and I've even had a few tadpoles to make it to adulthood. Here's a pic of a couple that I took today.
