First Lady's Slipper of the year...
« on: April 29, 2007, 12:16:46 PM »
This is the first bloom from my clump of Cypripedium calceolus pubescens aka Yellow Lady Slipper Orchid.

It's a beautiful spring bloom that lasts close to a month and a real pleasure to see each year.

Cheers,
Sean

Thanks Sheila,

Maryvonne,

It is native to most of North America. I collected these ones from a farmers field in Alberta many years ago. He was plowing new fields and these would have become compost had I not rescued them. There are some at my dad's old house and at his new house. I kept a couple clumps for myself. Hopefully one day they will naturalize once I get them in the ground.

Cheers,
Sean

I have considering buying one, but I'm not willing to shell out that kind of money with all the groundhogs near my garden - they seem to like the expensive flowers the best! >:(
