Need help finding a song
« on: May 02, 2007, 06:40:14 AM »
I need to find a song for my Mother . . . . it's called "A Little on the Lonely Side" and it was originally recorded in the 1940's.  She's trying to find a copy of it sung by a female and the only version I can find is sung by one of Guy Lombardo's singers and he's a guy.  If anyone has this song and can upload it for me, I'd be eternally grateful.  When Mom & Dad were young, it was 'their song' and she had it on her computer but lost it when her hard drive failed.

I assumed you tried Google and Napster.

Teresa I think you're looking for Patti Loveless......

You ask me how I'm doin' since you left
I can't lie, sometimes I'm beside myself
And the way I feel is to hard to hide
A little on the lonely side

Do you really want to know
What I've been through
Let me just say I'm still wrapped up in you
And the broken heart keeps me alive
A little on the lonely side

I'm a little on the lonely side
Where only the strong survive
And I'm barely gettin' by
A little on the lonely side

Some days I spend all my nights on memories
Goin' through what's left of what used to be
And the nights get longer all the time
A little on the lonely side

I'm a little on the lonely side
Where only the strong survive
And I'm barely gettin' by
A little on the lonely side

I'm a little on the lonely side
Where only the strong survive
And I'm barely gettin' by
A little on the lonely side

Teresa,

Knowing you and I are from the same generation, there is no way Loveless could be the songstress you seek, having been born the year I graduated high school (1957).  I think you are really seeking the version by Marjorie Hughes.

Frankie Carle  (Born: Mar 25, 1903 in Providence, Rhode Island Died: Mar 07, 2001) wrote this song, which he recorded with his daughter, Marjorie Hughes.  It is available from amazon.com at http://www.amazon.com/Very-Best-Frankie-Carle/dp/B000065ARH/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_1/103-1255494-5770211

I hope you can soon surprise your beloved mother with this recording.  I suggest you have your video camera going when you play it for her, as the video will be a real comfort to you later on....

BTW, You are welcome, old girl...

Gee, I hope this is the right one....

Thanks Johns, I read thru quickly and didn't catch "originally recorded in the 1940's"

If the lyrics are the same, it's a very nice song.

Johns it's probably the version by Marjorie Hughes and that's a huge help because now I at least have a name.  I'm driving up to the mountains to see if I can find it in Mom & Dad's home.  She's in Idaho with my sister and thought it was on her computer, but it must have gotten lost when the hard drive died.

I cannot tell if the amazon version is just music or has the lyrics as well because it only plays a short bit of the song and the song has a big intro . . . .

Thanks so much for the help . . . . she's really missing Dad.

Hugs to you and your Mother, Teresa.

I'm sure it's a comfort having you for a daughter.

I found a version from Frankie Carle and his orchestra from 1940. It is 1:40 in length but it is orchestral... no singer.
If that helps let me know and I will send it to you.

Tim, I'd love to have it . . . . it's better than nothing and they found nothing when they went out yesterday.  I think the version on the Frankie Carle CD is also orchestral.  I'll pm my email addy!

A friend here gave me the name of a guy who has over 5 million old records (the largest collection in the us is what this guy said).  Supposedly he will move songs off old records onto cd's.  He's in PA and I'm going to call him today.

I also have found the Guy Lombardo version... 2:31 in length.
I cannot find the version with Marjorie Hughes anywhere... not even a reference. I did find several other songs she did with Frankie Carle.

I did find another version with a female singer though... MAYBE it is what you are looking for. It is 2:48 seconds. It is from 1945. The singer is Alice Babs.

Just let me know what you want.

I just sent you an email to your regular email... not a pm.
I sent you the Frankie Carle orchestral version and the Alice Babs singing version.

Hey Johns, Any possibility the Alice Babs version is what she was looking for???

I don't know if Alice Babs was who she was looking for, but I can assure you that she will LOVE that . . . . I listened to it and I love it.  I've just sent it to her and I'll let you know what she says.

Thank you so much!!!!!  I just can't tell you how much this means to me!  I knew if I asked here, someone would help me find it!  You are officially my hero now!
