Nice!! Gonnere is hard to photograph for some reason. It must reflect a great deal of light.
My Gonnere has a bud on it. @O@

Very pretty... I had wanted Gonnerre for a long time- bought one from Frank (matherfish) late last year.  It is doing great and growing new pads fast... Hopefully it will bud and bloom before too long!

it may be your aiaf or equivalent causing the bluriness. its the little boxes that you see on your screen (your camera makes an educated guess on what the subject is but is usually wrong). if you disable this, it will default to the center box. then switch to macro and it should work!

Gary:

Lorenzo suggestion is good, but you might want to try a circular polarizer to cut down the reflection.  Also Louis had a good suggestion a few years ago of using a #8 coffee filter to set the whitness on your camera.  I suspect he probably has something on his website so you might want to check it out or perhaps he will catch this thread to comment.

The two most difficult colors to photograph are blue and white. digital cameras will always inject some red into blue plants. to get the most accurate blue, you must use your graphic program to eliminate the red.

as for the white, most difficult. you must underexpose by at least 1 + 1/2 stops. white fools the cameras exposure meter and automatically sets the camera to over expose. if you use a polarizer to eliminate the water glare, it must be a circular polarizer for a digital camera.

now on the camera settings, use manual if you are familiar with it or set the camera to aperture priority. set the aperture as high as it can go and still give you a fast enough shutter speed as to not cause blur. a f-stop of f-11 or greater will give you most depth of field and hence a sharper image

have i confused you?

Gary, that's a beautiful bloom.

Louis is right- just cut, paste, & print what he says, then stick it in your camera's manual.

(edit: meant to say that I did that last year and refer to it all the time! Especially the stuff about the filter. A lot of the other stuff goes over my head)

This is my Gonnere from two years ago..

Some think that white is boring but I like white when it's mixed in with other colors of waterlilies.

Thanks for the tip Lou, I'll have to try that out.
