I have regular commercial koi food for my koi and goldfish. But I also buy trout chow that I feed to my turtles.

It's a good-sized pellet for my larger koi, and it's CHEAP - about $30 for 50lbs, which lasts about two years.

I no longer have the bag, so I can't read what it's made of.

Anybody know if this trout chow is OK for koi? Any reason not to feed it?

don't feed trout chow or carp chow. Koi have different needs and some "chows" help cos fatty livers.

Get a good koi food and add supplements like sweet potatoes, shrimp, oranges and green leafy lettuece.

You can feed koi just about anything if their diet is balanced.
They really should get about half of the bulk of their diet from greens - and you probably would be surprised how much algae they are grazing off the pond sides.

I have heard that it is bad and can really harm your koi. Well, if you look at it any fish food with "fish meal" in it is not what koi would like. Do they eat that in the wild? I dont think so. I am hearing that this EA koi food is really good. Never tried it though.

I like the price but I only know better to use koi food for the koi and the goldies, shubs, and walkins enjoy. They also get most of their nutrition from all the algae on the pond sides. Maybe that's why my fish are small for their years.

Everyone is right. A steady diet of trout, or catfish, food will cause koi to be fat, and its hard on their liver.
But a little chocolate cheesecake desert won't hurt you... and a little of the greasy stuff won't hurt them either.
