A vivid colored bloom - Larp Prasert (photo)
« on: August 30, 2006, 04:30:18 PM »
This lily has a stunning rich deep raspberry pink bloom but it doesn't bloom much. It is always a treat to finally see a few blooms from it.

Here is Larp Prasert from Thailand.

Cheers,

Beautiful. That is my favorite color. I did not know it was a sporadic bloomer.
Friends are the family I would choose.

Out of a wealth of choices, this one has always been my favourite in your collection. I just love 'in your face' colour.

Cheers,

Thanks everyone :)

Lou, the bloom on this particular plant is about 4.5 inches across but I have seen it much larger on fully grown out plant in New Orleans.
I received this plant from Rich Sacher many years ago and he received his directly from Thailand. It was verified that he has the true P. 'Larp Prasert'. Mine is one of very few that is confirmed through Provenance.

LouAnn, it's not a sporadic bloomer generally, I just never pay it that much attention so it is always a surprise when it sends up a few blooms when it has been ignored all season.

Teresa, it does have a sweet aroma like most tropicals but aroma is not a characteristic I pay attention to. I guess I should bend down and smell the lilies every once in a while ;)

Hi Tammie,  It was unfortunate that the ones you imported were not the real deal. Like many fads however, even Larp Prasert fell out of interest on the American market. Do you still have yours? I lost mine...

Maryvonne, it is a good bloomer when fertilized and given a chance. I have tried to propagate it through neglect for years, it just doesn't form new tubers well for me.

Mike, I like it allot too but must admit, it's not my favorite but a runner up ;D

Cheers,
Sean

Just an added note, this lily, being from Thailand, comes from temperatures in excess of those experienced by Andrew Davis, for much longer periods of time than the seasons provide in Raleigh NC. Perhaps this is a lily that Andrew could have some luck with ::)

Hey Sean:

Nice photos, I have not seen a live bloom, but your pictures indicate it is a beaut...I guess it can make it through a hot season, perhaps it will die and have stunted growth in cooler conditions lol

Hi Gary,

I would be happy to supply you with one if I could get the one I have to propagate. I do everything I can to force it to tuber and nothing... (4 years of trying)
That is why it is a shy bloomer for me, I have been trying to propagate it since I received it but to no avail.
Same problem with Charlie's Pride, I just cant get it to propagate.

Cheers,
Sean

Hi Sean,

You might have the last known one in North America.  I'm not sure what became of Rich's, but I lost mine in the move.  Not that it died, but I have no idea where the tuber is.  I must have in excess of 2000 tubers out there that I have no idea any longer what they are, so the odds of my ever getting them planted out and ID'ed are next to nil.

Charlie's Pride...now that one I have going great guns.<g>

Well I will do my best with propagating Larp Prasert if I can get it to set at least one propagating tuber.

Hey Craig, As for Charlie's Pride, I know very many people who have been persistently asking me for a plant from Charlie's Pride for the last few years since you gave me my first plant. I know you will do well with your first release of it. I expect you should do it retail or at least offer exclusive rights to a single retailer for one year and make some money on your initial sale ;)

I have my Charlie's Pride tuber in a baggie, almost considering adding some super phosphate to see if it will develop any roots and just produce at least one plant...

Cheers,
Sean

Craig & Sean:

Speaking of Rich...how is he fairing with his business in the Big Easy. I  think that the Garden District was saved from the flooding.  I went to his shop a few years back and it was quite impressive of one can back within ~ 1 acre.
