I was watching the news earlier this evening while it was still light outside.  Out of my peripheral vision I briefly saw through our dining room window the outline of a huge bird fly up towards my roof .  Thinking it was a Heron I immediately went into the backyard and I saw a crow sitting on the roof.  I was relieved.  However, I couldn't see the other part of the roof overlooking the pond so I walked to the other side of the house and as soon as I entered the area where the pond is I saw a big Heron on the roof.  It immediately took flight into the sunset.  That's the second time this week I've seen one on my roof.  I hope he looses my address.....  I also hope he's mute and can't tell his buddies where I live...

Behind the Academy, to the south, is that huge vacant field.  We frequently saw herons and egrets in that dry dusty part of the park stalking gophers.  It was common to see either an egret or a heron with a gopher in its mouth.  I never saw them hanging around the lakes.....always in the field.....  Maybe I need to get some gophers.....
