I'm almost well, this bronchitis kicked my butt. Got up at 5:30 this morning after little sleep did sleep a couple of hours but still tired. Think I'm turning into a night person.

It's more than a seasonal thing. A few of our major participators haven't been around.

I once kiddigly said that If I had paid Carlos to come to Californina and build my pond, I'd have been better off.   I had no idea what I was doing!

I needed that!

A skippy is a very simple do-it-yourself-filter.  Carlos and I both use the commercial floor scrubber pads as media.  I clean it 2 times a year, maybe once.. One guy here says he has NEVER cleaned it
Carlos said. "I will swing by."
I go to a koi club meeting and I see filters that cost thousands. Also ponds with NO PLANTS!
See it at Gene's site (Koi Village)

Or read about it on the original Skippy site. Mr. Skippy died a year or so ago.  http://www.skippysstuff.com/biofiltr.htm

Jen, I have a Skippy, and I love it!  The construction is pretty simple, and I only clean my top filter pads during the year...and then clean the whole thing out to close the pond up for winter. I can also add quilt batting to the top of the filter when I need to do a major cleanup on the pond in the Spring.   O0

Skippys are great. I have one (heavily modified) and love it. Gene has some terrific instructions.

I had a kit from Gene.  It went together well.  A few tiny problems, but a call to gene and it was solved.
Yeah I miss to. :'( :'(

Well I would post more and have lots of pictures I want to share, BUT These last few weeks have been Crazy  :D My Brother in law decided that life wasn't worth living so he checked himself out permanantly just before Mothers Day leaving my sister and their 2 kids with few resources, No explanation, no note, just checked out... Ugh!  Couple that with my sons high school senior graduation  Wednesday and my daughters wedding this Sunday (not to mention the ton of Work I have as an IT Supervisor for a major University) and you have a formula for  very little time left, I use that time for sleep..  ;) I will post more soon I promise!

God Bless
Andy

Andy, so sorry for what you are going through. Hang in there!

The board often gets quiet this time of year, when those of us who actually have winter can finally get outdoors and play in our ponds and yards. But it's extra quiet because of some of our former frequent posters who have moved on.  :'(

My ponds are doing pretty well, I think I've made some progress on the learning curve, so until I build the next one (this summer? I hope), or until I have enough lily blooms to photograph, I don't really have much to say! Plus our family gets insanely busy this time of year with birthdays, end of school year events, etc. Not much time to hang out on the computer...
Please see my 300 gallon pond and my container ponds at:

Yeah it has been a rough month but the funeral is over, my oldest is graduated and day after tomorrow at this time I will be signing the last few checks and drinking a toast. Come Monday the 20 or so inlaws and friends staying with me will start their respective treks home. They will start on Monday and be gone by the following Sunday, then I get my house and my Pond back. (yeah she is using that for the wedding too! Is nothing sacred  ;) )
