Snowball tree (pics)
« on: June 02, 2007, 03:10:52 AM »
Masses of flowers on this plant this year
This past couple of years it has been infested with bugs and had to be sprayed.  Last year it was reasonably good for the first time.  This year it has surpassed itself :)

Zones mean nothing over here Jerry
We are an island and also affected by the warm Gulf Stream
So even though we are effectively guessed at something like a 6 or 7 the influence of water and the heat from the Gulf Stream would modify that as well
Plus the fact that, like everywhere else in the world. climates are quickly changing ............

Beautiful!

They grow here too, Jerry.  My neighbor has them and they got bigger than her house and was pushing my fence.  So, I gave her 4 huge bushes a major hair cut.  '

I just bought a new book by Vertrees 'A pocket Guide to Japanese Maples'
In it there is a European Zone map
I see that we have been given a Zone 8 with coastal areas being given a Zone 9
Van Gelderen seemed to think we were a Zone 7 but maybe he forgot about the island bit :)
Or the Gulf Stream?

Jerry, I doubt the Viburnum would be happy in your zone. They grow here and I enjoy my neighbors without having to give up the space for it.

Lust away!  I do too for the plants you have there.  I guess we all want what we can't have.

Last year the local Garden columnist wrote me up, he said i had the only Royal Poinciana tree in the valley!     HAD is right. IT DID NOT SURVIVE THE FROST.

Beautiful.

Others have then here and they bloom about the same time as the lilacs.  I have 2 small ones.  One is trying to survive and the other is trying to die.
