Progress on front ponds
«
on:
June 05, 2007, 10:56:42 AM »
Work continues on our front water feature. The edge is getting there for the pond that will have three upright basalt columns that are drilled and will bubble water out the top. The tallest will be in the center of the picture window and over 3' tall. The three waterlily ponds surrounding the center water feature are almost done. The biggest one on the right needs a dirt floor and the lilies planted. We have to wait for the tadpoles to morph and move on first. Getting nice flat rocks has been the problem for the edge on the center pond. Sheesh. We started this in 2004.

Thanks, please don't say visitors won't want to leave....I have issues with DH's family and friends constantly dropping by and not leaving....they seem to be more interested in the beer fridge in the garage though.
The plants around the rocks are dark blue star creeper (Pratia angulata), Irish and Scotch moss (Sagina subulata) black mondo grass (
Ophiopogon planiscapus
'Nigrescens')

Wow, it is really coming along great! I love the Pratia angulata, and is that a Chamecyparis I see in the background? (sp)
Cute kitty, too.

Your front pond is coming along. I like the plants you have there and can't wait to see it finished. Your little lily is very pretty. Nice looking cat too.

Looking great!!!
Don't worry - I don't think guests will actually come "in" to your home. They'll stay outside and admire your ponds!

Oh how beautiful!! And what cute kitties.
Oh, and what are those little green things on the surface of your center lily pond called? Some kind of floating plant, I know I've seen it on natural ponds/lakes.

The floating stuff is duckweed.
Yes, there is a Chamecyparis (sp) in the background. There are actually three but two are tiny.
Thanks for all the compliments.
The cat showed up around this time last year. I found his owners and they came and got him but moved away and left him a week later.
His name is Bobcat.

LeeAnne, that is going to be such a pretty entrance for your home! I too have projects that take forever and a day to complete, yours looks as if it is very near to being done though. If you were much closer I could easily find you enough flat rocks to finish up. :)emm

Yes, he is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and asleep on my bed as I type.
Our other cat, Marmalade really took to him, which shocked us.

LeAnne, the front feature looks great, I would still like to do one in my front yard, may be a year or two, but I do have some left over liner from the lily pond.

Thanks!
not Phlox, blue star creeper,
Pratia pedunculata
. Blooms like an annual, almost all summer
it is an aggressive little sucker though. Gotta pull it out of the heathers.
