That's gonna be beautiful.

I had one bloom this weekend, I have it posted in the Pond Chat area.  Hoping my other doesn't open till Father's Day.  Having a big cook out here, I was really hoping that the one that opened yesterday would have held off.  It really didn't look like it was ready.  I went to bed at 6:30 am and got up at 11:00 am, everything still fuzzy.  I looked over and was like, am I seeing that.  Then I ran and got the camera, my pics were bad.  I work all night Fri's and Sat's, lack of sleep on weekends makes it rough to take pics...LOL

Yes, I saw it... I told you to keep posting.
Last year I had one bloom.
My wife was great and took some pix. I worked everyday from dark until dark and missed it until the petals were on the ground.
I was really bummed out.
There is an impending work/ strike issue that might have me camped out at my store for the next few weeks so I might miss it again.

I've got my fingers crossed for you that you will get to see it, that it waits until your home.

Last year this same lotus had like 8 blooms on it.  I had a bud on my Babydoll Lotus, it was there one day and the next day something had ate it off.  All that was left was the stem.  :-\

Have you had any success overwintering lotus?  In south LA land I can not get them to overwinter. Ponchatoula is about the same latitude as Conroe. I spent $50 on a MoMoBatan from American Aquatics Gardens that did not come back the next year.
Marie has sent me about 10 different lotus over the last 6 or 7 years. All thrive for a season and the return. I am getting some pressure from the better half to grow her some lotus. Any help appreciated.

I really like that Lotus.  I might have to put that on a get it list for next spring.

Dan......Is yours in your pond?  Barrell?  What do you do to it for winter (don't cut below the water line), cut anything back, lower it into your pond?  What is your zone?

The lotus were in both ponds and in self contained containers during the growing seasons. All were dropped to the bottom of the ponds for winter and pulled out  for the spring. Ponchatoula is listed zone 8 but the actual temps for the last five years have been zone 9.  The temp went below freezing less than 10 nights and to 25 deg F only once.  Kim PM your address and for Priority postage I'll send you a BK.

Mine are in containers. I built a greenhouse late last fall and put the containers in there.
My weather is really close to what you get.
After mine died back and went dormant I filled the buckets up with water.
They are deep and hold a lot of water.
So even on nights when it froze here they were protected from wind and the volume of water in each container did not allow it to drop in temp too much.
This is the first winter I have had them so I was not sure what to do but after reading everything I could that became my plan.
All 3 came back for me.
It's funny, the one that is blooming was the last to come back and has the fewest leaves almost by 2/3s compared to the other two that have yet to bloom. It does have the largest leaves though.

The President has now officially bloomed for me.
Last year Lavendar Lady bloomed but I missed the debut. It has a color that is almost the same but is much lighter and not as strong a color.
Hopefully I will get to see Perry's Giant Sunburst as well...keeping my fingers crossed.

And now the time had come to say goodbye..... :'(

But all is not lost. The last two shots show the past as well as the future both taken in the present.

How's that for a conundrum?

My Perry Slocum didn't wait for Father's Day, it opened today.  Oh well, guess they'll get to see the 3rd day bloom.

I don't believe I had ever seen a lotus bloom before coming to this forum. So beautiful! Way up here in MI, I don't think I'm ready to try that yet. Maybe next year I'll be bugging you for help with a lotus- if I succeed with lillies this year.

Looking forward to more posts of your incredible flowers!  o(:-)
