While sitting outside at the pond tonight this Luna moth flew in and landed on rock. Thoght you might enjoy and maybe some have never seen one.

We have one of those hanging around every now and then. My daughter thinks its the butterfly thats on that sleep medicine commercial.

Gorgeous! I have only seen two in my life. The poor things only live for about a week, so that's why they are sighted so rarely in some areas.

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful moth!
What the pictures can't show accurately is that these moths are 4 1/2" to 5" across. They are really stunning. I have seen a couple of live ones in my life and have one in my butterfly/moth collection that was found dead. I would never have been able to kill one for the collection. They're just too pretty.

I've never seen Fireflies either, the closest I've come is the fake ones in Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland. They aren't native here.
